Job description:

This role is within the Roads and Projects Infrastructure Delivery (RAPID) directorate.

RAPID oversees delivery, by National Highways, of multi-million-pound road improvement projects set out in the 5-year second Road Investment Strategy (RIS2).

You will be part of a team that will help achieve the Department's requirements as client and sponsor for one or more 'Tier 1' strategic roads projects (major projects above National Highways' delegated authority) and ensure appropriate governance and assurance, working closely with colleagues in National Highways, HM Treasury, the Infrastructure & Projects Authority (IPA) and across Department for Transport (DfT).

This is an exciting opportunity to use and develop your skills and experience in partnership working and project delivery.

You will be working within the Department's sponsorship of some of the largest and most complex infrastructure projects in the country.


Person specification:


  • Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: _
  • Set the client's (the Department's) requirements for the project and update them as appropriate through the project lifecycle.
  • Provide support and help National Highways to succeed in delivering the project, providing a robust level of scrutiny and challenge in a supportive way whilst ensuring that all the appropriate governance and assurance process are followed for the projects.
  • Build an open and honest relationship with your key counterparts in National Highways sponsorship teams, alongside developing a network of contacts in the Department with specialist knowledge in strategy, economics, finance, commercial, project management, governance, strategic communications and local knowledge.
  • Ensure that the Tier 1 project remains focused on meeting the Department's requirements, maintaining affordability, efficiency and delivering value for money.

About you


To be successful, you will need to be someone who has experience of working on the delivery of complex programmes or projects.

You can work in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, enabling you to meet delivery deadlines.


You are someone with superb interpersonal skills, communicating effectively with stakeholders at various levels to relay information whilst ensuring your communication is clear and concise.


This role will provide you with the opportunity to obtain a qualification in Association for Project Management (APM) or similar if you do not hold this already.


Additional information


There will be travel required to attend meetings in London and other DfT offices up to 2 times per month dependant on business need.

We will remain flexible to your working and personal circumstances when this is to occur.


A minimum of 40% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.


Qualifications:


  • You will be required to hold or be willing to work towards An Association for Project Management (APM) or similar qualification project management qualification
