Introduction:


  • Our client is currently recruiting for people to work in the Defence and Aerospace domains. Our client offers a range of independent and unbiased advice in engineering, technical and strategic advisory services to a wide breadth of markets and clients.
  • Our client offers 'throughlife' support to the MoD and equipment manufacturers, and because they don't manufacture anything theirselves, their clients can rely on them to offer independent and unbiased recommendations. The industry looks to them for advice on the latest issues and, with duty of care always high on the MoD's agenda, which is driving this increasing demand.
  • They adopt holistic approach to their work and their people frequently work across different disciplines. When it comes to the environment, they strive to minimise risk, whether that's from equipment failures, human error or external factors. In terms of supportability, they assess the reliability and sustainability of systems and optimise their support to maintain the capability in the long term.
  • The Key Responsibilities of a Commercial Consultant:

Key responsibilities:


  • Working within multidisciplinary teams (at our clients' premises and in our clients' offices, across the UK) to deliver excellent results for the clients.
  • Supporting the clients through complex tendering processes (including using current Public Sector procurement procedures) to engage suppliers that will provide the goods or services the client seeks. This may include facilitating workshops to understand the business need, preparing tender specifications, working with client legal advisers, engaging with suppliers, coordinating tender evaluation and supporting clients in negotiations.
  • Providing contract management, supplier management or commercial advice to clients; for example, assessing supplier performance and helping the clients gain performance improvements from their suppliers.
  • Preparing reports and presenting to a range of client stakeholders.
  • Contributing to the development of our clients' tools, techniques and methods that can be shared to build capabilities within our clients' Procurement & Commercial Consulting team, and Business & Digital Consulting practice.

Skills & experience:


  • You can build good and lasting relationships with clients at all levels in a business environment.
  • You are able to gain client trust and identify opportunities for adding further value to the client relationship.
  • You maintain a flexible attitude to working in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • You have experience in specifying tenders and selecting service providers in a commercial environment.
  • Ideally you will have experience in one or more of our clients' key markets: Defence, Aerospace, Security, Energy, Utilities, Highways, Rail, and the Public Sector.
  • CIPS accreditation or similar is highly desirable.
  • You have a degree or equivalent qualifications; however relevant experience will also be considered.
  • You are a strong team player and can communicate effectively with a wide range of people.
  • You can demonstrate an ability to transfer skills and knowledge to colleagues and clients.
  • You are proactive and enjoy working with a variety of people, but also comfortable working independently.
  • You have supported the development and delivery of marketing campaigns or promotional events.
  • Ideally you have experience of contributing to the sale of management consulting work including bid development and presentations.
