Salary:
£69,161 to £79,882 plus a Location allowance of £1,721. You will receive £69,161 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £79,882 will be via incremental progression.


Location:
Marlowe House with required travel to various sites in London.

The vision of the Metropolitan Police Service (Met) is to make London safe for everyone.

We are radically changing to deliver high-quality policing services in a more efficient and cost-effective way, in line with the Mayor of London's Police and Crime Plan.

Changing operational demands affect the size, make-up, and deployment of our fleet.

The Met are currently exploring options to support the acceleration of decarbonisation to achieve Net Zero Carbon status by 2030.

With over 750 alternative-fuel vehicles already on the fleet, we are currently outlining targets for the full rollout of zero-emission-capable vehicles as we transition away from a reliance on petrol and diesel.

For the Met, this is both an operational necessity and a legal obligation.


MO11 Fleet Services provides professional fleet solutions in support of all operational policing requirements across the Met in the most cost-effective way and is responsible for the entire lifecycle management of the Fleet.

The role holder will be required to lead and develop a team to enhance the overall fleet operation and ensure that we meet operational demands and keep London safe by ensuring a safe, fit-for-purpose and available in the most efficient and cost-effective way.


Key responsibilities

  • To support the SLT in the design, development, and implementation of strategic business plans to deliver efficient and effective service delivery
  • To assist SLT and operation leaders identify areas for improvement in operational service levels, quality measures and KPIs and ensure that performance risk and results are monitored, managed, and continuously improved
  • In conjunction with the SLT, to develop and establish a governance framework which reflects the unique and changing needs of Fleet Services
  • To work with operation leaders in the design of appropriate organisation and reporting structures, plus a Resource Plan, to enable the business to provide a 24/7 response as required
  • To assist the SLT and operational leads in Contingency Planning e.g. fuel crisis, surge demands
  • To provide a consultative service to major change and continuous improvement initiatives within Fleet Services, which deliver significant business improvements and benefits
  • To collate business development and improvement initiatives and coordinate processes for feedback of innovative ideas to other interested parties
  • Deputise for the Head of Fleet Services in all accountable and responsible activities when required
  • To assist operation leads to develop financial and operational Balanced Scorecards, targets and KPIs
  • To help in the identification of training needs and providers of training interventions in areas such as commercial and financial knowledge, legislative requirements, change management etc, in line with PDPs and in keeping with HR policies and procedures
  • Lead and manage the operational relationships with commercial partners for Fleet Services establishing effective relationships at Board level and ensuring effective intelligent client functions. This includes meeting on a regular basis with service delivery providers that are Directors or Chief Executives
  • Lead and manage business delivered change within Fleet Services to deliver business change and benefits in line with corporate priorities and business cases that are signed off by Management Board and the Deputy Mayor this will include the preparation and presentation of business cases to Management Board and the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime working within the Met governance and investment appraisal framework
  • Develop an organisational structure, management reporting lines and staff deployment across Fleet Services which provides effective operational 24/7 response as required, that considers the welfare of operational support staff and evolves to support innovation and change in the services required
  • Responsible for key legal and contractual KPI's within Fleet Services
  • To support the Head of Fleet Services in their leadership and responsibility for the safe delivery and operational use of c5k vehicles. This includes additional service, maintenance & repair of c3.7k vehicles following insource
  • To work with operational leaders to identify the necessary operational requirements, service levels and service quality measures that should be applied to Fleet Services and ensure that performance, risk and impact are monitored, managed and continuously improved
