Job summary:


The post holder will lead the Transitions, Technical Support and Continuous Improvement Unit within the 'Change' SCS1* group in the Submarine Directorate.

The role requires a high level of technical knowledge and expertise in the submarine, nuclear and engineering sectors.

Working alongside the Portfolio Management and Strategy teams, the postholder will be responsible for:

Leading a multi-disciplinary (project/ change delivery/ SME) team supporting the transition of new boats (AUKUS, and Vanguard to Dreadnought) into the In-Service domain.

The teams will be responsible for planning, coordination and selected business change delivery. They will also provide technical advice to other In-Service programmes.


Personally providing senior representation at AUKUS and Dreadnought governance, representing the Directorate and wider In-Service interests, experience and technical expertise.

Leading the Continuous Improvement team responsible for identifying and implementing initiatives to improve performance across In-Service delivery.

Identifying and exploiting opportunities to Learn from Experience and embed in new practice or ways of working.


Providing technical SME advice to In-Service major programmes and cultivating a community of technical SMEs both personally and via the technical support team.


Managing the Senior Security Advisor in the Directorate who will be responsible for identifying and responding to opportunities to improve physical, procedural and personnel security across our operations.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week


Job description:


Development of Phase 1 Pillar 1 AUKUS Delivery Plan and Navy Command Vanguard to Dreadnought (V-D) Transition Plan, working closely with the Defence Nuclear Organisation.

Lead Business Change activity across the Directorate, and wider Navy Command, in support of AUKUS Phase 1 delivery / V-D transition

Representation of UK interests in Trilateral Phase 1 Pillar 1 Steering Groups

Provision of advice to Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and liaison with the UK AUKUS Liaison Officer and UK Prog Del Office

Lead Continuous Improvement / Learning from Experience across the Directorate with particular focus upon 'waterfront' elements


Leadership of the transitions and technical advice team, which includes provision of technical advice to AUKUS Phase 1 and the Directorate major change programmes.

Management or leadership role in Naval in-service support (military or civilian)

Leadership of multi-disciplinary teams (including specialisms within military and civilian cadre - e.g. engineering, project delivery)

Assuring adherence to security policies and procedures and strengthening security practice

Commissioning or personally developing training (individual, team and collective training)

Leading and coordinating delivery across organisational and functional boundaries.

Desirable
Project Delivery and/or Project Leadership experience.

Submarine Operations experience/awareness.

Submarine Support experience.


Operated within the UK Defence Regulation of the Maritime and Nuclear domains and associated Navy assurance processes, NC NRPA and Life Cycle Phase 4 duty holding and associated assurance processes.

Advisory or liaison role for HM Government.


Essential qualifications:

Engineering Degree.

Chartered Engineer.
