This post is for a part-time Food Surplus worker to work with our team at Shildon Alive's food project, Shildon, County Durham.
The worker will be expected to help our team to achieve the charity's clearly described outcomes around enablement, nutritional eating, and well-being as well as financial inclusion, food poverty and food insecurity.
OVERVIEW OF THE POST:
The Food surplus worker will be expected to manage our food program with a team of volunteers, collecting and redistributing rescued food.
REPORTING TO:
The Community Project manager and Shildon Alive management team.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To manage and support a group of volunteer drivers to collect, sort and redistribute rescued food, following current food hygiene regulations.
- To liaise regularly with current food surplus partners as well as developing new relationships.
- To monitor and manage rescued food notifications and communicate with the team of volunteers to arrange collection and distribution.
- To work with Shildon Alive team to create new connections with food businesses and supermarkets to expand our food surplus partnerships.
- To support volunteers with training opportunities.
- Promote our shelves for all to community groups and likeminded organisations.
- Develop new storage solutions and distribution networks for food surplus.
- Support our links with Shildon Children's and Young P eoples' Action Network (SCYPAN), local schools, sports clubs, One Point workers, housing providers and Durham County Council to promote our food network, gardening and cooking programs.
- To monitor and assist in evaluating all Shildon Alive food related activities.
NOTES:
The above list is not exhaustive and other duties may be attached to the post from time to time. Variation may also occur to the duties and responsibilities without changing the general character of the post.
- The hours would be over 6 days, and include evenings and weekends (some homeworking will be involved).
- An up-to-date food hygiene qualification is a requirement.
- Good written and verbal communication skills are essential to this role.
- A full UK driving licence is essential.
