Job description


The Information Appraisal team within Defra's Data and Information Lifecycle team is looking for an Information Appraiser to join their team based in Alnwick office.


As a central government department Defra is statutorily required by the Public Records Act to have in place a systematic approach to managing its records, and for identifying and transferring historical public records to The National Archives (TNA) for permanent preservation in line with the 20 Year Rule.

Responsibilities
Actively contribute to the delivery of the annual appraisal programme by:

  • Conducting detailed research, interrogation of file lists and some physical file examination
  • Redacting and declassifying sensitive information
  • Cataloguing information selected for transfer to TNA

Skills and Experience

  • The ability to make sound professional decisions based on research and the understanding of informationrelated legislation.
  • Analytical skills demonstrating an eye for detail.
  • Experience of records handling or management
