This post is for a Research Assistant to be part of the psychology team in the The Darwin Centre for Young People.

The Darwin Centre for Young People is a Tier 4 adolescent inpatient unit based in Cambridge.

The unit offers assessment and treatment to young people, aged 13-18 years old, experiencing psychiatric, emotional or psychological problems that interfere with their social, interpersonal and educational functioning.


The main duties of the post are to collect, collate and support the analysis of outcome data under direct supervision of the teams' clinical psychologists, working independently according to a plan agreed with the qualified psychologists and within the overall framework of the teams' policies and procedures.


Additionally, this role will also involve assistance in clinically related administration, assessment, conduct of audits, collection of statistics and development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.

To complete protocol-based data collection procedures with parents/ patients/referrers, to administer/collect self-report measures, rating scales, psychometric assessments, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the patients care.

To then support the analysis and reporting of this information.

To maintain project databases and filing systems, in accordance with GDPR and ethics approvals.

To assist in data analysis, write-up and dissemination of data.


To prepare the annual and quarterly reports which summarise all the collected data, under the supervision of the teams clinical psychologist.

To work with other staff to assess and review the care of the young people and their carers in preparation for multi-disciplinary reviews.


To assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings where care takes place.

To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings.
