Effective stockpile management relies heavily on data analysis and availability modeling to make evidence-based decisions for enhancing and prolonging the weapon stockpile.

This process is highly visible within the Customer team and plays a crucial role in informing critical decision
- making for a key Royal Navy capability.


We have an exciting opportunity for a proactive Availability Modeller to join our team and take the lead in modeling activities during the complexities of the Mid Life Refurbishment (MLR) phase.

This role offers a chance to deepen your understanding of the importance and principles of Availability while directly engaging with MOD and Royal Navy (RN) staff supporting the Type 45 platform.


The Availability Modeller, you will be responsible for:

  • Building and nurturing strong relationships with various stakeholders, both internal and external, including MOD delivery staff, RN front-line support, Weapons Evaluation and Capability Assurance (WECA), and multiple internal CSS areas.
  • Ensuring timely data supply from across the teams to populate the Stockpile model for regular updates and adhoc assessments of potential solutions.
  • Conducting programlevel tracking and analysis of performance against defined targets, and contributing to the definition of future targets based on historical performance and the need to maintain stockpile availability.
  • Generating Availability Modeling baselines by utilising collected data to create scenarios to run through an existing MatLab model.
  • Developing and analysing 'whatif' scenarios to support Customer decisionmaking, ensuring optimal deployment, management, and maintenance of scarce resources for maximum operational benefit.
  • Presenting outputs of all model scenarios, 'whatif' scenarios, and program performance metrics to the team at all levels.
  • Identifying opportunities for model enhancements to increase functionality and scope.
  • Developing new visualization methods to effectively communicate Stockpile status and impacts.
  • Ensuring that other stockpile models benefit from the experience gained in this environment, and facilitating the transfer of new functionality introduced elsewhere into the model.

What we're looking for?

  • Proficiency in basic coding and modelling, with a mindset geared towards running and understanding code or models.
  • Advanced Excel skills for creating visualisations and interrogating data, including VBA for automation.
  • A logical and analytical approach to work, capable of identifying inconsistencies and unexpected outcomes, and supporting the development of explanations.
  • Ability to comprehend weapon system programs within their lifecycle, including Surveillance and Life Extension (SaLE), Mid Life Refurbishment (MLR), etc.
