What To Expect
Quantitative Research (QR) is an expert quantitative modeling group in J.P. Morgan, as well as a leader in financial engineering, data analytics, and portfolio management.

As a global team, QR partners with traders, marketers and risk managers across all products and regions, contributes to sales and client interaction, product innovation, valuation and risk management, inventory and portfolio optimization, electronic trading and market making, and appropriate financial risk controls.


Our mission is to develop and maintain sophisticated mathematical models, cutting-edge methodologies, and infrastructure to value and hedge financial transactions ranging from mainstream flow products to complex derivative deals, as well as improve the performance of algorithmic trading strategies and promote advanced electronic solutions to our clients worldwide.

We also work closely with trading desks to develop statistical arbitrage strategies and other quantitative trading models.

Throughout the internship, you'll develop and enhance models and algorithms, working with quants, technologists, traders, marketers, and risk managers.

On a given day, you may be calibrating parameters for models of market evolution, optimizing the pricing of financial instruments to increase market share, or managing the risk in existing portfolios.


About You


A strong interest in global financial markets is essential, as are analytical and quantitative skills, flexibility, teamwork, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to handle pressure and enjoy a collaborative environment.

A strong focus on science or engineering in your undergraduate studies is important.


Beyond that, what we're most interested in are the things that make you, you: the personal qualities, outside interests, and achievements beyond academia that demonstrate the kind of person you are and the perspective you could bring to the team.


Key skills include:

  • Analytical, quantitative and problem solving skills, as well as demonstrated research skills
  • Computer programming experience such as use of python/C++/other programming languages
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, collaborative work environment
  • Being adaptable, flexible, and resilient
  • Ability to quickly grasp new business concepts and adapt to rapidly changing business needs.
  • Excellent interpretive skills and the ability to present findings to a nontechnical audience
  • PhD in a relevant field such as mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering, computer science or data science/machine learning
  • Enthusiastic about knowledge sharing and collaboration
  • Commitment towards advancing a diverse and inclusive environment
  • Minimum preferred cumulative GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale

Additional desirable skills:

  • Knowledge of options pricing theory, trading algorithms, or demonstrated interest in finance through coursework or prior experience
  • Confidence and initiative to take on responsibility and manage your own projects.
  • Knowledge of machine learning / data science theory, techniques and tools
