Highfield Prep School, part of the Harrogate Ladies' College family of schools, is looking to recruit an enthusiastic full-time Teaching Assistant to join the team in January 2024.

The term-time hours of the role are to work from 8.15am until 4.15pm, Monday - Friday.


Job Purpose:

To assist in providing a secure, visibly attractive, stimulating environment in which children will progress to their full potential.


Main Duties

  • Taking the lead from the Class Teacher, to support the teaching and learning of the pupils in the class;
  • To help organise and manage the learning environment and resources available to the teachers and children;
  • To supervise and encourage children in their activities and creative play;
  • To help promote independence and the develop of the pupil's selfesteem;
  • To promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils within the classroom;
  • To take an active role in the implementation of behaviour strategies and pastoral care systems in place;
  • To provide additional support for identified pupils both inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate and make progress;
  • To contribute to the assessment of pupils through observation and reporting and to help monitor their progress against learning objectives;
  • To assist Class Teachers with maintaining pupil records;
  • To liaise with and support class volunteers, parents and carers, and other visiting professions where required;
  • To assist with the use of ICT to support pupils' learning;
  • To be actively involved at the beginning and end of each school holiday to clear up and/or prepare for the start of a new school term;
  • To assist pupils in swimming lessons, including being in the water.
  • To take pupils to the Wellbeing Centre where necessary;
  • To support school visits and residential trips where appropriate;
  • Undertake professional duties that may be reasonably assigned by the Head Teacher, such as playground duty, lunch and swimming duties.
  • To attend Highfield/HLC functions as appropriate;
  • To support the aims and ethos of the School;
  • To comply with the School's policies and procedures, in particular the Safeguarding and Health & Safety Policies;
  • To attend team and staff meetings where appropriate and compulsory INSET days;
  • To attend relevant CPD as linked to targets set in appraisal.
  • Although the role will be allocated to year group or class for the majority of the time, the post holder will be flexible in working across all year groups where needed.

Person Specification

Essential:


Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong communication skills literacy, numeracy and ICT skills
  • Able to swim

Personal attributes

  • Ability to be able to liaise confidently with parents, pupils and staff;
  • Flexible, able to undertake the above duties as required;
  • Strong team player.

Desirable:


Experience

  • Experience of working with children in KS1 and KS2;
  • Experience of working in a pastoral role.
