Description

We have an opportunity for the role of a joint Administrator & MDT Coordinator at the Southampton General Hospital within our TAVI service which specialises in the catheter based replacement of the aortic valve.


Our cardiovascular and thoracic service diagnoses and treats conditions affecting organs inside the chest, mainly the lungs and heart, and the major blood vessels that affect circulation.

Our cardiac centre is mainly based at Southampton General Hospital, and includes cutting edge catheter labs, a specialist cardiac intensive care unit and a dedicated cardiac MRI scanner.

This is a busy, regional team with high activity. Good communication, organisation skills and the ability to prioritise your workload are essential for these roles. You will need to have an accurate and systematic approach to your work and attention to detail.

Effective communication skills are crucial as you will liaise with a variety of people including the general public and hospital staff.

Your Responsibilities
What you'll do

  • Provide day to day administrative management of patients referred into our TAVI service from surrounding hospitals, tracking the patient safely through their cardiology pathway.
  • Ensure patients appointments are booked according to the cardiology performance targets and TAVI pathway policy, making sure the appropriate tests are requested and sent to the patient prior to their appointment(s).
  • Work with the TAVI Nurse Case Managers to help organise our twice weekly TAVI MDT list as well as requesting information and test results from referring hospitals.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our admin team within the Cardiovascular & Thoracic care group.

The team is a valuable part of the patient's journey, and this is a high-volume service, covering wide geographical area, working various hours (Monday-Friday) within core hours (between 8am and 5pm).

You will be working closely with your team of consultants to provide a comprehensive administration service which will involve:

  • working closely with the clinical teams and co-ordinating the patient pathways from referral onwards
- managing the administration for the service as well as provide secretarial cover to consultants
- supporting the wider team by typing letters, dealing with queries from patients and other care providers
- managing your own workload on a day-to-day basis but will also working as part of the wider team


This role is very interesting and varied where no two days are the same, it also gives you the opportunity to develop relationships with patients and helping to oversee their treatment and care.

What we're looking for


We are looking for someone with a flexible approach with the ability to manage a demanding workload with changing priorities.

Confidentiality and a willingness to learn is essential.

You will need to be able to work in a calm, logical and methodical way but be able to multi-task whilst dealing with frequent interruptions.

You must be confident, diplomatic and able to work in a busy environment with a pleasant disposition.


We're also looking for you to demonstrate:

  • High level of organisation with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to communicate over the telephone and in person.
  • Use of IT skills, including Microsoft Office suite
The ability to work independently and manage varying workloads, seeking guidance where necessary.
