Description

Community Support Project Officer who has experience providing advice and guidance to individuals and groups in an engaging, interesting, positive and motivating way is required for a charity that covers the Surrey region.


We two positions available: 1 x Full-Time and 1 x Part-Time


FULL-TIME SALARY:
£28,000 per annum + Benefits (see below)


PART-TIME SALARY:
£28,000 pro rata (actual salary based on part-time hours: £16,800 per annum) + Benefits (see below)


LOCATION:
Remote / Home Based or Hybrid or Office Based

The offices are in Burpham, Surrey, but the role will involve delivery across the County.

When not working with clients at other venues, you can base yourself in the office, at home or a mix of both.


JOB TYPE:
Part-Time and Full-Time Contracts Available to March 2024


FULL-TIME WORKING HOURS: 35 Hours per Week


PART-TIME WORKING HOURS: 21 Hours per Week


PLEASE NOTE:
You will have to travel across Surrey and sometimes beyond, so access to transport would be an advantage.

Where public transport is not an option, the charity can support you through the Access to Work scheme as appropriate.


JOB OVERVIEW


We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Community Support Project Officer who has experience providing advice and guidance to individuals and groups in an engaging, interesting, positive and motivating way.


Working as the Community Support Project Officer you will support residents throughout Surrey who are being affected by the cost-of-living crisis and need additional support and guidance to manage their household budgets, keep themselves and their families warm, and look after their individual and family wellbeing.

The charity helps local people gain access to support and advice on a range of cost-of-living issues.


As a Community Support Project Officer you will be:
Passionate about ensuring people have a warm, healthy home

Have a good understanding of the challenges of managing a tight budget where 'Heat or Eat' is a real dilemma and where the increasing cost-of-living crisis is adding extra pressure to individuals and families

Able to offer practical, empathetic advice and support to those in need

DUTIES

Your duties as the Community Support Project Officer include:
Work in partnership with local communities and Partners to support and advise clients on a range of issues surrounding the cost-of-living crisis

Engage with and create effective partnerships with Children's centres, food banks, churches, mosques, village halls, community centres/cafes, housing associations, hostels, other charities, and community groups to meet local need through the provision of the programme

Support Surrey's Warm Hubs to deliver energy and fuel advice and support, when open, and planning sessions in advance during warmer months

Carry out group information sessions at a range of community venues around Surrey, giving advice and guidance sessions for various projects

Conduct 1-1 sessions with people at risk and help them to develop and implement plans to improve their household budget and well-being

Work with the Marketing and Communications Manager to create leaflets, social media, and other communication tools


Provide advice on matters such as family budgeting, pay-day loans, healthy eating on a low budget, how to improve energy efficiency, smart meters etc.

Manage the project, including reports to multiple funders

You will also be able to refer clients to food banks, household support fund and fuel vouchers as appropriate


CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS


The charity is looking for two people with passion, drive, and an ambition to improve the lives of individuals across our communities in Surrey.

As the Community Support Project Officer you will have the following:
Able to present, verbally and in writing, to varied audiences

Experience giving advice and guidance to individuals and groups

Knowledge of the principles and importance of warm homes, cost of energy in the home, and energy efficiency in the home

Access to transport for regular travel within Surrey (you can claim mileage on expenses)

Experience of working (paid or unpaid) in a not-for-profit organisation

Ability to function with a degree of independence

A City and Guilds Level 3 Award in Energy Awareness or equivalent would be a distinct advantage, but we will provide appropriate training, up to and including the City and Guilds Level 3 Award in Energy Awareness as needed
