Cost Centre Controller

Hybrid working with up to 3 days per week working from home

Salford Quays, Manchester

Permanent

£35K - £40K per annum

Full time 37. 5 hours per week

As our Cost Centre Controller you'll play a vital part in ensuring all functional costs are accurately understood and thoroughly controlled.

Using attention to detail and working closely with your stakeholders you'll be utilising your cost accounting and forecasting skills.


Accountabilities & Activities:


Information provision

  • To ensure the provision of consistent and accurate information to the business in respect of all functional costs.
  • Ensure that all costs are accurately captured in the correct cost centres & projects.
  • To assist in the continual development and improvement of the reporting of the costs to the appropriate business managers.
  • Produce monthly reports to the functional directorates and senior managers to strict deadlines. These reports should highlight and explain any material variances between actuals and the appropriate reforecast and AOP.
  • In relation to costs that are recharged ensure sufficient information is provided to enable the receiver of the recharge to make informed decisions about the costs they are accountable for.
  • At year end and halfyear end report on all significant accruals in relation to cost base and provide supporting evidence and explanations to both financial accounts and the external auditors in relation to these accruals.
  • Proactively seek process improvements to improve the accuracy and efficiency of month end processes to meet tight Corporate Centre and Bupa UK Deadlines.

Influencing the cost base

  • Develop a detailed understanding of all the costs within the functional areas, enabling full explanation of costs to be communicated effectively to stakeholders.
  • Provide support and advice to influence the functions and department heads based on the information produced to enable them to make effective business decisions.
  • Produce reforecasts and AOPs for all of the cost centres in accordance with Corporate Centre and Bupa UK timetables and targets. This involves active liaison with functional directorates and department heads ensuring that they take ownership of their AOPs and reforecasts.
  • Take information from the Project Office and work with the functional directorates and heads to decide which part of the business/cost centres these strategic challenges impact and build these into their Forecasts/AOPs
  • Proactively identify areas for potential savings and create and fulfil ways of bringing about actions to realise these savings through varied methods of presentation.
  • Coordinate and communicate implementation of cross costbase guidelines and initiatives.
  • Attend cost centre review meetings to increase knowledge, challenge, and influence.

Planning

  • Assisting with the management and challenge of the AOP, 3YP and quarterly forecast processes including preparing output documents in the form of financial templates and storyboards.
  • Updating the overall forecast project plan and proactively highlighting interdependencies and key milestones.
  • Promote Bupa UK strategy through the business.
  • To ensure progress against key financial milestones are tracked on an on an ongoing basis.
  • To ensure that any risks to achievement of business targets are understood, addressed and escalated where appropriate.
  • Respond to ad hoc requests from outside of the department e.g. research papers, development initiatives and other short term projects.
  • Build key relationships across the business as necessary.

Qualifications, Training & Experience:


  • The jobholder will be expected to pursue a significant programme of personal development.
  • Must be analytically and numerically minded.
  • Advanced PC skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and accountancy software.
  • Excellent Customer service skills, including communication, management of expectation, recommendations, quality of outputs etc.
  • The jobholder will be expected to proactively build and maintain relationships with customers throughout the Company.
  • Graduate calibre.
  • Quick to learn and responsive to the needs of the business.
  • Proactive with a 'can do' approach.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and meet stretching and tight deadlines.
  • Some project experience would be desirable.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills.
