Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a renowned Environmental Planning, Design and Management Consultancy with the hire of a Senior Environmental Planner in Edinburgh.

This is advertised as full-time (37.5 hours Monday to Friday) however ourclient has a strong track record in flexible working.

You will be part of a team of dedicated planning professionals who often work closely with landscape design, landscape planning, ecology, transport and carbon management colleagues.

In this role you could contribute to a range of private and public sectorprojects in the fields of planning and environmental policy, strategy, assessment and implementation, including:


  • Policy research and evaluation;
  • Research into a broad range of topic areas including climate change adaptation and mitigation, and management of natural resources and built assets;
  • Data organisation and analysis;
  • Strategic Environmental Assessment and Habitats Regulations Assessment of plans and strategies.

About You

  • Educated to degree level, ideally in a relevant planning or environmental degree e.g., planning, geography, environmental science, sustainable development. Or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge and expertise.
  • Experience of managing environmental planning or relevant research projects either through previous consultancy or 'clientside' experience.
  • Excellent report writing and numeracy skills.
  • Good communication skills and a proactive approach to building relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Experience of policy focused research, including the development of evidence to inform planning policies
  • Experience of undertaking, managing and/or commissioning Sustainability Appraisals.
  • Experience of line management and mentoring.
  • An organised and efficient approach to managing your own and others' work within tight deadlines.
  • Personable with strong people skills.
  • Appetite for continuous learning, problem solving and professional development.
  • An enthusiastic and flexible attitude
