Description

The post holder will work within North London Mental Health Partnership with the role primarily based at Chase Building, Chase Farm Hospital as a Senior Infection Prevention and Control Specialist Nurse.

The post holder will be expected to travel as required across Barnet, Enfield and Haringey with some cross working within Camden and Islington locations to support the wider IPC service.

This is a fixed term 12 month contract to provide maternity cover.

Contribute to the development of any processes/procedures and monitor compliance with national standards of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC).

This includes The Health and Social Care Act 2008:

Code of Practice on the Prevention and Control of Infections, National Infection Prevention and Control Manual (NIPCM) and IPC Education Framework.

Provide specialist expert advice to prevent and control infections using evidence based practice including Outbreak Management.

Support best practice in IPC at all times, professionally challenging as required.
Implementation of local and national guidance working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
Surveillance, analysis and interpretation of infection data.
Education and training of staff and service users.
Participation in Vaccination campaigns
Auditing of clinical practice and the built environment

The post holder should be able to work well within a small team geographically spread, good communication is essential through a range of forums to support the Partnership.


There will be opportunities for continuous professional development and advancing specialist skills in Infection Prevention and Control, through exposure to different services provided and specialities supporting care.

Financial responsibility

Responsible for observing personal duty of care in relation to equipment and resources used throughout their work.

The post holder may be at times required to support in the purchasing of incentives or resources however this will be supported by the IPC administrator and approval by senior members of the team.

Responsibility for Human Resources

Contribute to the IPC team learning and development bringing specialist knowledge and training for Continuous Professional Development.

Act as a role model to all peers and appropriately support any pre-registration students who may join the IPCT for practice learning opportunities.

Responsible for ensuring own mandatory learning is up to date and specific to role.
Responsible for producing and delivering an IPC link nurse programme alongside the wider IPC Team.

Responsible in providing specialist advice in any Post Infection Reviews, Root Cause Analysis contributing to Patient Safety Incidents that may involve Human Resources involvement or procedures.

Responsibility for Administration

Responsible for keeping accurate and up to date information on infections such as Situational Reports.
Responsible for managing their own time and workload as an autonomous practitioner.
Work closely with the IPC administrator on any administrative tasks to be delegated or completed.
Have good knowledge of IT systems such as Microsoft 360/Office and able to effectively use these.

Responsibility for IT and Digital Systems/Services


Responsible for collating and uploading any HCAI or infection data from a variety of sources and systems into local databases.

Maintain accurate records through different systems such as RiO and Care Records.
Will regularly and effectively present data through written and verbal reports to disseminate across the Partnership and potentially to external stakeholders (use of Microsoft 360, graphs, charts and tables as appropriate)

Builds effective relationships with a wide range of professionals at all levels across the Partnership and with external stakeholders.

Use behaviours and specific approaches such as persuasion and negotiation skills to promote compliance and best practice with individual's or groups.
