AHK has an exciting opportunity for a Deputy Manager to join our main Laboratory Facility in Liverpool (UK).

As a Deputy Manager, you will be functionally responsible for the day-to-day management of the XRF department, ensuring an efficient and high-qualityanalytical service is provided so that reporting deadlines and priorities are met as agreed with customers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Deputising for the Departmental Manager when absent from the laboratory in all laboratory matters such that the most cost effective, daytoday utilisation of resources within the department is maintained in support of meeting reporting deadlines and prioritiesagreed with clients.
  • Support in ensuring that the workforce is sufficiently motivated, skilled and properly trained to meet the operational needs of the business.
  • Ensuring at all times that a high degree of accuracy and precision is applied to analyses through incorporating and promoting good laboratory practice principles. Also, for ensuring that work throughput is followed in accordance with documented methodsand procedures. It is the post holder's responsibility to inform the Department Manager of any failure in compliance to documented methods.
  • Being functionally responsible for providing technical advice and support to the laboratory staff as required on technical problems, acting in a 'trouble shooting' capacity to all.
  • Advising the Departmental Manager of repetitive technical problems relating to daytoday analytical procedures.
  • Maintaining and updating training records of staff, reviewing competency documentation for authorization and agreeing the training goals and development targets of staff with the Departmental Manager.
  • Ensuring equipment is maintained in a working and calibrated state, organising maintenance where necessary.
  • Maintain record keeping in such a way that work is clearly auditable, traceable and within the guidelines of AHK's 17025 accreditation.
  • By routine monitoring and involvement in the Group Quality Exercises ensure all key XRF methods are meeting desired standards of accuracy.
  • Undertaking other duties of an appropriate nature, in consultation with the XRF Department Manager.
  • Maintain a professional standard and appearance during office hours, while promoting the company and when on company business.
  • Ensure the company's Health & Safety policy is being applied within all laboratory areas under the post holder's purview, informing the Laboratory Director of serious breaches or systematic failure of policy.

Leadership and Development:


  • Conduct regular individual performance reviews and PDR meetings with all direct reports.
  • Monitor, report and record all training and development for all direct reports.
  • Monitor staff attendance and punctuality in consultation with the Department Manager and Human Resource.
  • Plan, prioritise and delegate work in order to achieve results of a high standard and on time.
  • Actively encourage and motivate others to continually learn, develop and achieve organisational standards.
  • Agree, action and monitor training objectives with all direct reports.

Communication:


  • Ability to actively encourage and motivate others to continually learn, develop and achieve organisational standards.
  • Confidently correct mistakes within the team, while providing constructive feedback and learning opportunities.
  • Ensure effective and timely communications between peer group, other departments and line managers.
To be successful at Alfred H Knight you will need to display the following:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND WORK EXPERIENCE

Required Work Experience:


  • Substantial experience in a laboratory environment.
  • A proven record in people management.
  • Substantial experience of using the following techniques
  • WDXRF and EDXRF.

Required Qualifications:


  • A minimum GCSE equivalent education
