An opportunity has arisen to join the Research Data Team as a Research Data Coordinator.

The role is based in the Research & Development (R&D) and you will responsible for the production of case report forms (CRF's), working closely within all clinical areas, but particularly Oncology and Haematology.

The role will include oversight of the Research Data Team.

This is a full time post working 37.5 hours per week.

This is 9 month fixed-term post, to cover maternity leave. Secondments will be considered for the role.


The role of the Research Data Co-Ordinator is essential to the running of the clinical trials and in particular the effective collection of data within the Oncology and Haematology departments.

Be responsible for setting up and maintaining robust systems to collect, enter and submit research data at RCHT

Work with the Industry Operations Manager (IOM) and Research Governance Lead to write procedures and work instructions for all aspects of the Research Data Team activity

Be responsible for reviewing these processes regularly and undertaking monitoring and audits to ensure they remain up to date and streamlined

Ensure systems are in place so all Data Officers maintain accurate patient trial documentation, complete Case Record Forms, including the use of electronic data capture systems

Ensure close working relationships between the Research Operations Service Manager (ROSM), Delivery Team Leaders and external stakeholders are maintained and communicate any barriers to accurate data capture at the earliest opportunity

Regularly run team performance reports and communicate the results of these to the IOM, highlighting and resolving queries in a timely manner and ensuring trends are identified and preventative strategies are implemented accordingly

Escalate any data capture issues to the IOM and work to resolve these in a timely manner

Have the ability to analyse and interpret complex data and possess the skills to communicate this to the SMT as well as to a wide range of audiences in lay terms if required

Be responsible for the preparation and interpretation of reports on research trials undertaken at RCHT

Disseminate the findings of the report to NHS professionals and national partners at all levels including commercial companies

Undertake ad hoc complex surveys or questionnaires in relation to Research Data Team and report as well as present the results of these

To be responsible for simplifying complex protocol data to create Case Report Forms

Support the ROSM and Senior Research Administrators to ensure all activity is captured in Radico (internal finance system) database and Investigate discrepancies and resolve finance queries in a timely manner

Ensure data is entered in a timely manner and working with the Finance Management Accountant to action timely invoicing of patient visits

Work with the IOM and Finance Management Accountant on ad hoc internal and external financial audits. Collect data and interpret this to a high level of accuracy and to very tight deadlines

Authorise Research Data Team travel and subsistence claims

Be responsible for the provision of stationery and authorise the purchase of items as and when required, liaising closely with the budget holder

Working with the IOM to increase commercial income into the Trust by ensuing an accurate and timely data input, providing good data governance, and building the reputation of the Trust

Line management of the Research Data Team for the department

Plan and coordinate work for the Research Data Team which at times can be complex and challenging to meet the demands of the service

Be overarching responsible for the team workload and also the staff rota (including approval of annual leave )

Undertake annual Performance Development Reviews (PDRs) of Research Data Team as appropriate

Work with the IOM to manage the recruitment process for new research data staff as appropriate, and work to enable retention of research staff

Regularly monitor absence, mandatory training, and PDRs to ensure ongoing compliance with Trust targets

Work with the IOM to review any grievances, absence reviews or disciplinaries and work with the HR Business Partner to ensure a resolution following Trust guidance at all times


Hold regular one to one meeting with the individual Research Data Officers and ensure regular Research Data Team meetings take place.

Ensure these meetings are recorded and actions are acted upon in a timely manner

Working with the ROSM developing and maintaining training materials and resources for the Research Data Team

Be responsible for training new members of the team and ensuring there are competent
