Description

We're looking for an experienced, highly motivated and creative communications professional, with a track record of leading multiple digital channels and bringing content to life.


The successful applicant will lead and motivate a high-performing team focused on developing creative digital content, making sure we put our audiences at the heart of everything we do.

New legislation will soon be introducing big changes for Companies House and our customers.

Our owned digital channels will be crucial in raising awareness about these changes and telling our customers what they need to do to comply with their new responsibilities.

We are currently working in a hybrid way at Companies House and office working at least once a week will be expected with this role.

This role will be aligned to our Cardiff office.


Job description

  • Line manage one band D Digital Content Manager, and countersign for one band C Communications Officer.
  • Oversee Companies House owned digital channels social media (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube), newsletter, and blog. Craft an appropriate and consistent tone of voice in line with our changing role, and provide strategic direction for our channels.
  • Cocreate a refreshed owned channel strategy with the Head of Service and Policy Comms and the Content and Compliance Lead, making sure our strategic objectives, vision and purpose are a golden thread that run through everything we do. Develop measurable objectives to support content delivery.
  • Work with the Content and Compliance Lead on our legislative reform campaign microsite a key emerging channel for Companies House.
  • Encourage a culture of telling compelling stories on our channels to bring our content to life. Motivate the digital content team to experiment with different content formats and techniques to drive up engagement rates.
  • Develop and lead a GovDelivery newsletter strategy with a particular focus on retaining our 500k subscribers, increasing number of subscribers, and increasing engagement rate with innovative techniques.
  • Develop and lead a strategy for our external blog, focusing on quality of output and integration with other key channels.
  • Oversee social media advertising budget of £25k per year, and make sure our investment is generating meaningful insight and results.
  • Champion accessibility standards across all our digital channels
  • Produce detailed communication plans for changes to our publicfacing products and services, developing and building excellent relationships with people and teams right across Companies House. Take into account lessons learnt from previous plans, and develop measurable objectives.
  • Consider risks and provide appropriate mitigations, and demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of how to target, segment and connect with affected users. Ensure that you use the most appropriate channel mix for each workstream.
  • Evaluate the impact of digital engagement activity across all our channels (qualitative and quantative), sharing lessons learned and using those insights to inform future work and to create stretch goals for the team. Build a culture of curiosity and continuous learning.
  • Be alert to emerging issues and trends and how these could affect and/or benefit our owned channels.

Person specification

  • You'll have significant experience of working in a busy communications team, and managing and overseeing multiple and varied digital channels.
  • You'll have excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to communicate important and sometimes complex messages in a creative way crafting the right tone, visual identity and key message. You'll build rapport quickly with others as you develop effective working relationships with colleagues right across Companies House.
  • You'll have excellent attention to detail and you'll love motivating yourself and those in your team to try new techniques.
  • You'll have a sophisticated understanding of the value of insight, using your skills to implement an evidencebased approach and advocate for customers to make sure we provide content in a range of different formats to meet and target diverse audience needs.
  • You'll have excellent time management skills, being able to prioritise multiple conflicting priorities and deliver against tight deadlines, while ensuring high quality results for Companies House.
  • You'll have up to date knowledge of other communication disciplines, including strategic comms and external affairs, and you'll have a keen interest in professional development. You'll be accustomed to working with other discipline leads to make sure content is integrated and consistent with our brand and tone of voice.
