Description
The Deputy Head of Reward leads on operational pay and reward matters across DIT. This requires specialist expertise on issues relevant to DIT and the wider Civil Service reward agenda.

This role provides a unique opportunity to play a key part in reform and current business activity by shaping, leading and directing all aspects of the reward agenda.

The role plays a critical role to help attract, grow, motivate and retain our employees.


Job description

  • Develop, design and implement DIT's forward thinking, evidence based, strategic approach to pay and reward.
  • Liaise with and influence senior stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive and consistent understanding of DIT's approach to reward and its impact on our workforce and business delivery.
  • Building effective relationships alongside gathering and distilling complex data sets into accessible formats that are easily understood by all stakeholder groups ensuring the right conversations and decisions take place on pay, reward strategy and reform.
  • Balance project management, policy development and strategic thinking in a complex stakeholder environment.
  • Link and ensure consistency between DIT's total reward strategy with broader cross government policies and private sector best practice approaches.
  • Embed all strategies, policies and the new approach to the wider employee value proposition to drive an enhanced employee proposition.

Hybrid Working
Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.


Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.


Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average.

If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting.


Person specification

Essential Criteria

  • Knowledge and prior experience of Reward.

Desirable Criteria

  • Data analysis and experience designing pay models.
  • Knowledge of HR policies and processes.
  • Experience of operating in a large and complex organisation at team leader, policy lead, either in HR or related area.
  • Project and stakeholder management.
  • Designing and implementing pay systems and negotiating.

Personal Attributes & Skills

  • With your experience in a similarly specialist role, you'll be adept at building strong relationships with key business influencers and will be comfortable operating at a senior level with autonomy and enthusiasm.
  • Experience and understanding of business drivers and needs, finding solutions to meet these requirements.
  • Experience of managing projects and delivering successful outcomes, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • The ability to make logical, wellbalanced and reasoned decisions.
  • A keen analytical eye and the ability to use technology to manipulate complex data sets to create impactful business outcomes.
