Description
This role is about enabling great decisions across our Newton Abbot site whilst also providing strong governance.

Working as a member of the site leadership team you will play a key role as an independent, critical friend in service of great evidence-based decision making.

You will be responsible for providing great insight into all aspects of site performance including cost, quality, service and sustainability and identifying opportunities for enhanced performance.

You will be instrumental in translating insights into solutions and implementation.


You will partner the site, using your influencing skills to ensure that the priorities of the teams are the right ones, that recommendations are based on robust and appropriate data, and that decisions are implemented effectively.


You will also be a member of the broader Finance Team, working collaboratively and flexibly, within cross-functional teams on start-stop initiatives to deliver on our performance objectives.

These initiatives will be varied and value-generating, providing an exciting opportunity to drive performance in an influential role. Examples include developing costing models in support of tender activity or developing business cases for investment.


The role will require an on-site presence at Newton Abbot with occasional travel to other sites, although remote working is supported when possible.


Key responsibilities:

Leadership & business partnering

  • Provide finance business partnering to a variety of stakeholders including support and challenge to enable the Newton Abbot teams to deliver improvements in all aspects of site performance including cost, quality, service and sustainability
  • Ability to take a holistic companywide approach, as well as considering the interests of Newton Abbot
  • Develop costing models to support tendering activity and the subsequent delivery of new own label business (including copack opportunities). Act as the main point of contact between finance, the site operational team and commercial for performancerelated queries
  • Provide support, input, and review for project work, including investment appraisal techniques and business cases. Take an active role in post completion reviews and seek to draw insights and learning that can be applied to future projects
  • Constructive contribution to the wider finance team; share ideas, support and develop colleagues, foster an environment of support and challenge to deliver continuous improvement
  • Flexible approach to working; willingness to take an active role in ad hoc project work and to provide cover for other FP&A Managers
  • Use information systems available to improve effectiveness and efficiency of work responsibilities. Demonstrate competent use of new technology and business reporting and information systems.
Budgeting and forecasting

  • Play the role of independent, critical friend to ensure accurate budgeting and forecasting of site performance, ensuring consistent and justifiable assumptions as a result of strong business partnering relationships and supportive challenge
  • Ensure strong buyin of the budget and rolling forecast processes through stakeholder management
  • Ensure risks and opportunities to performance and budget / latest outlook are well understood and raised in a timely manner and enable the delivery of objectives through the timely identification of interventions and recommendations
  • Identification, reporting and monitoring of risks and opportunities
  • Perform scenario analysis as required to explore and inform the evolution of product fulfilment strategy and management of emerging risks
Financial management

  • Timely and insightful analysis and commentary of actual outturn compared to budget/latest forecast/standard.
  • Active discussion with the wider finance team to ensure consistent treatment of costs across all YV operational sites.
  • Active involvement in KPI reporting
  • Support compliance activities as required (risk management, audit, tax etc.)
  • Advocate for robust governance and controls, in line with defined policies, processes and frameworks.
  • To support the Senior Finance Business Partner
  • Operations in ad hoc projects and technical accounting matters as required
