Royal Mail is now recruiting Airport Mail Screeners. If you are reliable, self-motivated and a good team player, you are the type of person we're looking for.

About us
Five centuries in business has made Royal Mail more than a household name.

We connect companies, customers and communities across the country, delivering a 'one-price-goes-anywhere', universal postal service to more than 29 million addresses across the UK.

Our market is changing, but as one of the UK's leading companies we are focused on achieving our vision of being recognised as the best delivery company in the UK and across Europe.

We want to be more commercial, flexible and efficient and are employing our strong brand and a range of new products and services to achieve this.

Our logistics teams are responsible for keeping everything moving. They ensure that millions of pieces of mail are delivered on time every year across the UK and internationally.

Without logistics we simply wouldn't be able to function. The physical transportation of mail is what we do.

About the role

For the first part of the shift you will perform a mail-sorting role until you are required to mail screen which will be from around 20:00.

The mail-sorting role involves standing for long periods of time, sorting mail either by machine or by hand.

Your main role will be segregating the mail and bundling it into bags, so it can be delivered to the proper addresses.

You must be able to lift and carry mailbags and boxes weighing up to 11kg and push containers weighing 250kg.

You will then oversee the receipt and preparation of mail for aircraft departure.

You need excellent communication, numerical and writing skills for the purpose of communicating effectively with the police or other government agencies.

You'll be expected to maintain concentration as you complete repetitive tasks. You should have excellent observation skills to interrogate mail by profiling and x-ray screening.

You will decipher and evaluate computer screen images so you can identify prohibited and threatening items, including explosives, incendiary and other devices.

You will calibrate screening machines to DfT standards and must successfully pass a DfT approved Level E course and an Ishihara colour blindness test.
