Description

This is a 1 year fixed-term role to work with maternity team and other team members in providing individualised smoking cessation support to service users and their families in a flexible an innovative way.

Secondments will be considered.

Previous applicants do not need to apply.

This post supports the NHS Long Term Plan commitment to improve prevention and achieving 50% reductions in stillbirth, maternal and neonatal mortality and serious brain injury by 2025.

It will contribute to tackling inequalities in health through promoting and supporting pregnant women to stop smoking.

The NHS recognises smoking as a dependency and that it is a chronic, relapsing clinical condition that can kill at least half of people who smoke.

Smoking is the single biggest preventable modifiable risk factor during pregnancy for improving an infant's health and is linked to complications in pregnancy, stillbirth, premature births and sudden infant death syndrome.

Smoking is seen as a medical condition that can be treated, rather than a lifestyle choice.

The post holder will provide tobacco treatment advice and support women and their families to reduce their harm from tobacco.

This post will work under the line management of the Quality and Safety Matron and be supervised by a Stop Smoking Specialist (Public Health Northamptonshire) (matrix management).

This will involve regular practice supervision with the Tobacco Dependence Advisor (Maternity) at the counterpart NHS Trust (KGH/NGH).

The role will be challenging yet rewarding as the services develop as part of the 4-year plan.
