GDA Apprentice Finance and legal Services - work, earn and learn


We are looking for someone with a keen interest in business administrative duties, who is eager to learn, and is driven and self-motivated to deliver high quality work for a truly unique and exciting London borough.


Professional Duties:

The apprentice will be expected to:

  • As allocated by your line managers, perform a range of basic business administration duties which include specific tasks related to the formal qualification.
  • Work with colleagues, taking instruction, making notes and meeting the basic needs of the team.
  • Deal politely with all stakeholders. After training, be able to deliver an acceptable level of customer service at all times.
  • Handling calls made to the service/team, logging the calls and ensuring all the necessary information is gathered from the caller. Dealing with basic queries and directing all other calls to the appropriate team member/service.
  • Undertake accurate and efficient input of information into financial systems including general administrative duties such as filing, photocopying and scanning.

Team Specific Tasks:
Under direct supervision to learn about and work towards undertaking duties related to the Finance and Legal Services Directorate.

Throughout the Apprenticeship programme to assist colleagues in the following duties:


  • Undertake accurate and efficient input of information into financial systems
  • Dealing and Communicating with Stakeholders and colleagues
  • Personal Development
  • Working as part of a team to achieve a common goal
  • Basic Administrative Duties

Personal Development:

  • To undertake a varied programme of work experience, practical and theoretical training leading to a recognised apprenticeship qualification in Business Admin level 3 qualification as part of an apprenticeship programme.
  • To actively participate in their own development plan, which will be agreed with the line manager and the assessor from the training provider. To undertake the requirements of the academic element of the apprenticeship (e.g. attendance at college and completion of academic work). A minimum of 20% of working week will be allocated to this.

How to apply:

These opportunities are also open to
- _Children 16 to 18 years who are looked after and have been for more than 13 weeks (which does not need to be all one period); AND_
- _*To care leavers who can be young people aged between 16 and 24 years (to 25th birthday) who were looked after by Children's Services for a period of 13 weeks or more since the age of 14 (which does not need to be all one period) but must include a time after the 16th birthday._

Please note:

to be eligible for funding to complete the apprenticeship qualification you must have ordinarily been a resident in the UK for at least the previous three years before the start of the apprenticeship and have the right to work in the UK.


The main eligibility criteria:

  • As some young people may turn 16 between the end of June and beginning of September (they would need to wait until they are 16 before starting their apprenticeship)
  • Not already qualified to the same or higher level in the same field
  • Working at the specified level in maths and English required for the qualification
  • Applicants who do not hold GCSE or Functional skills in maths and English will be tested for suitability


As part of the screening process, you will need to demonstrate that you meet the maths and English skills criteria.

This can either be by providing evidence of your GCSE's or functional skills certificates.

If you do not have these, the below testing date has been arranged at the Professional Development Centre, 1 Waterdale Road, SE2 0HT.

Please try to keep the date free in your calendar in case you are required to complete maths and English testing.


Wednesday 14 June at 9.30am
If you have not achieved the GCSE's maths and English or equivalent functional skills, the screening process will assess the below for:
Business Admin level - you must demonstrate you can achieve level 2 maths and English

The following are acceptable forms of proof of address:

  • Recent bank statement (dated within the last 3 months)
  • Household utility bill (electricity, gas, water, dated within the last 3 months)
  • Council Tax bill
  • Official letter from the benefits agency/ HMRC
  • National Insurance letter
  • NHS card or letter of confirmation from your GP practice
  • A rental agreement/mortgage statement for your current residence


We understand some applicants may not have the proof of address in their own name, due to for example living with parents/carers.

In this instance you can supply documents that confirm you are linked to your parent
