Daisy Chain is a well-known and established charity in the Tees Valley which provides specialist support to autistic children, young people, adults, and their families.

Daisy Chain is offering a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and highly skilled Welfare Benefits Advisor to join our thriving adult services team.

The post holder will play a key role in reducing inequalities for autistic individuals by empowering clients to access life-changing financial support, income maximisation, and economic wellbeing.


We are looking for someone with a proven track record of delivering high quality benefits advice, including casework, and an up-to-date knowledge of benefits legislation and practise.

To be successful in this post, you must be flexible, organised, team spirited and able communicate empathically and effectively with diverse clients who have complex support needs.

There will be regular travel throughout the Tees Valley, so access to own transport is essential.

Salary-£24,000 to £27,000 per annum (pro rata) dependant on experience


Key Tasks

Operational

  • To provide welfare benefits advice to autistic and neurodivergent clients including, but not limited to:
  • Benefit checks
  • Benefit form completion
  • Challenging Benefit decisions
  • Liaising with statutory agencies

Administration

  • To provide transitional advice and guidance to young people/families moving from child to adult benefits.
  • To empower clients with financial capability and digital skills, e.g., budgeting, household bills, switching providers, and navigating online portals and systems in relation to bills.
  • To adapt approaches and communication in line with individual client needs.
  • To be proactive in generating and recording outcomes in line with project specifications, and logging these effectively through the use of Daisy Chains internal CRMS.
  • To refer/signpost clients into appropriate external agencies as required.
  • To deliver outreach sessions at community venues.
  • To advocate on behalf of clients, as appropriate.
  • To represent the service at internal and external meetings, information and networking events as required.
  • To be proactive in generating active referral links into the service, from across the Tees Valley.
  • To maintain an uptodate knowledge of welfare benefits legislation and practise.
  • To work towards and achieve project targets.
  • To act at all times in accordance with Daisy Chains policies and procedures
  • To ensure that client referral and support information is collected, used and stored suitably and safely within the context of the service and in line with Daisy Chain policy and procedure.
  • To gather client feedback and utilise this information in developing the service.
  • To assist with providing information for reports, including the progress and impact of the service.
  • To evidence the impact and outcomes of the service through the collection of case studies and efficient and detailed logging of data.
  • Under the direction and support of the Senior Adult Services Manager, to contribute towards the development of effective service materials and relevant literature, such as visual tools, information sheets, promotional flyers, and website information.
  • To keep detailed records and engage in monthly quality assurance.

Staff and Team Working

  • Work within a team, supporting colleagues and attending team meetings, recording, and sharing information appropriately and confidentially.
  • To undertake all mandatory training required for this post and other training and professional development activities as required.
  • Undertake other delegated tasks and responsibilities that fall within your capabilities.


This post is deemed to require an Enhanced DBS Check with the Disclosure and Barring Service due to the fact that there is access to children and vulnerable adults.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Proven track record of delivering effective benefits advice and casework, across a variety of cases, including disability benefits A, I & E
  • Substantial experience of managing own caseload of complex welfare benefits clients A, I & E
  • Experience of providing effective financial capability advice and support A & E
  • Experience of working with diverse clients who may be vulnerable and/or have complex needs (at least 1 year) A & E
  • Experience of effectively dealing with safeguarding concerns or disclosures A, I & E
  • Experience of using digital tools to log case notes and outcomes A, I & E
  • Experience of generating impactful financial outcomes for clients
