Purpose of the job:


The primary purpose of this position is to manage the development, verification and validation of innovative concepts, new product designs, and increase their readiness level before introducing them in production as part of the Mechanical Engineering functiongroup.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Conduct product risk assessment and define mitigation activities by means of design reviews and risk management tools to enable robust engineering
  • Build and implement appropriate validation and verification testing plans to prove part and system performance and quality
  • Organise the engineering activities and give appropriate reporting to the Project Management
  • Ensure adequate interactions with Manufacturing Engineering to optimise design for assembly and support production during product assembly
  • Promote inclusive crossfunctional work alongside other departments: Procurement, Quality Engineering, etc. to develop optimised solutions to Engineering Sign-Off
  • Write technical reports on failure modes and mechanisms, interpreting from literature, test data, postmortem / test observations, CAE studies and material property datasheets
  • Organise problem resolution tasks and develop countermeasures using Quality Management System tools, e.g. 8D

Knowledge and skills required for the role:

  • STEM degree or equivalent higher-level engineering qualification
  • Minimum 4 years' experience
related to the above accountabilities; experience in the automotive, aerospace, power generation or white-goods sectors would be an advantage

  • Very good understanding of product risk analysis, tools such as DFMEA and when to use them appropriately, and in project development and risk management
  • Knowledge of materials engineering, heat transfer, thermodynamics, mechanics, hydraulics, and test engineering
  • Experience with a CAD program ideally Creo a product data management tool
  • DDM preferred and excellent geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing to a standard such as BS 888
  • Proficient with small batch and series production manufacturing and assembly processes
  • Familiarity with agile project management techniques such as Scrum
  • Deliveryfocused and highly motivated with good attention to detail
  • Proactive and structured approach to problems with a cando attitude
  • Excellent communication skills with proven ability to contribute to design review meetings and form working relationships with supplier partners and peer groups
  • Strong influencing skills to achieve outcomes that are mutually beneficial
  • Share knowledge, coach/mentor and contribute to the development of others
  • Able to prioritise and adapt in a fastchanging development environment
  • Collaborative approach focussing on successful delivery of the Team's goals
  • Generate ideas to improve the Team's work environment
