Job Opportunity:

Caterpillar Shrewsbury are responsible for the design, development, and integration of engine

and drivetrain packages to meet the needs of tracked and wheeled products globally. The facility

also provides remanufacturing services of industrial engines, components, and transmissions.

An opportunity has become available for a Goods Receiving Inspector within the Inspection Department at Caterpillar Shrewsbury.

Reporting to the Inspection Team Leader, the incumbent will be predominately responsible for inspecting precision engineering components, and supporting other activities within the Inspection Department, achieving quality and on time delivery to customer specifications.

This is a challenging role and represents an exciting opportunity working as part of a highly focused team.


Job Responsibilities and Duties:


  • Undertake inspection measurement of precision components using Coronated Measuring Machines, Faro Arms, and tabletop inspection methods.
  • Product Audits, of components and assemblies.
  • Undertake Tabletop inspection and Proofing of components, including crack and hardness testing.
  • Calibration of Gauges.
  • Book and comment on material using and MRP system eg MFG/PRO.
  • Technically Support Quality & Design Engineers.
  • Compile and Issue Initial Sample Inspection Reports and inspection audit reports.
  • Complete Laboratory Analysis of fluids and materials.

Skills and Experience:


  • Having a recognised Engineering qualification eg apprenticeship.
  • Ability to read Engineering drawings, and full understanding of Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Practical experience in an Inspection role.
  • Competent in communicating with Engineers, Suppliers and Customers.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to plan, organise, and prioritise a varied range of work.
  • Selfmotivated with the ability to work on their own initiative.
  • Excellent team player.
  • Computer literate. Including knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Understanding of a computer MRP system eg MFG/PRO.
  • Industry experience in Manufacturing, Industrial, Automotive, or Aerospace.
  • Experience with casting, machining and Assembly processes is highly desirable.
  • Experience in NDT Crack Detection Methods.
