Core Purpose
To deliver support to students with EAL.

To complete baseline assessments for students with EAL

To monitor progress of students receiving intervention.


Key Areas of Responsibility

Support for Students

  • To deliver appropriate intervention programmes across both KS3 and KS4 for students with EAL
  • To work with admissions to support new starters with EAL, including assessing current language proficiency and developing EAL plan for staff outlining best ways to support student.
  • To work alongside staff to develop programmes and strategies to address areas of weakness and raise aspirations for students with EAL.
  • To attend relevant training to ensure continued current knowledge of assessment criteria and intervention programmes.
  • To identify barriers to learning amongst individuals and groups of students in Intervention groups (KS3 & KS4).
  • To undertake a range of responsibilities regarding identified students who need intervention to support them in achieving their targets, including;
  • Working on planned initiatives with specific groups or individuals across both KS3 and KS4;
  • Undertake, in halftermly timetabling of intervention students across KS3 and KS4;
  • Delivering KS3 and KS4 intervention sessions.
  • To work with students on one to one meetings and small groups using assertive mentoring to help them achieve etc.
  • To help develop wholeschool understanding of how intervention students make rapid progress in KS3 and KS
  • To evaluate the impact of intervention programmes throughout the year and to suggest changes in the selection of intervention students and strategies.
  • To promote positive attitudes and selfimage among all intervention students in both KS3 and KS
  • To promote high aspirations and positive ethos among intervention students in KS3 and KS
  • To develop effective one to one relationships with students in order to monitor progress towards agreed goals.
  • To support students' learning activities, focussing on curriculumbased learning needs.
  • To use student performance tracking data, assessments from teachers and support staff and information from parents to inform the setting of individual student targets.
  • To promote independent learning, homework and study skills among intervention students; To use display to support students' classroombased learning and to inform them about the curriculum;
  • To monitor the progress of students in the programmes.

Support for the Curriculum

  • Support students to understand instructions and in undertaking tasks as directed by the Teacher.
  • Prepare and maintain equipment/resources as directed by the teacher and assist students in their use.
  • To undertake exam access arrangements as needed.

Support for the School

  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
  • Be aware of and support difference and ensure all students have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
  • Attend relevant meetings as required and participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required.
  • Accompany teaching staff and students in visits and out of school activities as required.
  • Undertake other similar duties and activities that fall within the grade and scope of the post, as directed by the Heads of School.

Staff Training Days

  • 3 days to be taken as full days with all teaching staff.
  • 2 days to be disaggregated to (1) support school events (2) independent work or (3) CPD throughout the year as twilight sessions as directed by Line Manager.

Safeguarding

  • Respect confidential issues and keep confidence as appropriate.
  • To keep up to date with the School procedures for safeguarding and child protection, reporting any concerns to senior designated person.

Health and Safety

  • Be aware of the responsibility for personal Health, Safety and Welfare and that of others who may be affected by your actions or inactions.
