Description

We are recruiting for a compassionate and approachable Family Worker, to provide information and advice to families in relation to substance misuse and its impact on the family.

This role will join our exciting new contract in Rotherham, which starts on 1st April.


The postholder will work as part of an integrated network of dedicated professionals, supporting families affected by parent/carer substance misuse.

As part of this role, you will offer family focussed interventions which reduce the impact of substance misuse in families, particularly on children and young people, whilst working to raise awareness of and improve access to appropriate services.

It will be vital for you to develop strong and positive relationships with service users and their families, whilst managing an active caseload and ensuring continuity of care.


You will have demonstrable experience of working in the health, social care or family setting, with the ability to connect quickly with service users and families.

It is important that you are self-motivated and resilient, as well as comfortable working alone and on a one to one basis.

Working knowledge of substance misuse would be advantageous but we are open to conversations with all applicants who have a passion for working with families.

Essential Skills:

Evidence of continuous professional development

Relevant OCN/NVQ/City and Guilds level 3 or equivalent or willing to achieve this within 12 months

Demonstrable experience of working in the health, social care or family setting

Successful track record of working with substance misuse service users and/or their family members

Knowledge and understanding of health and safety, including assessing high-risk situations for service users

Ability to build effective relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders

Enhanced knowledge of safeguarding procedures and working with families

Ability to work effectively as a team player

Ability to work alone on an outreach basis

Resilient; ability to prioritise and work under pressure

Good written and oral communication skills

IT skills, including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and digital media

Organised and excellent time management skills

Knowledge and understanding of group working assessment, care planning and key working

Understanding of issues affecting substance misusers and their carers

Understanding of solution focused Brief Therapy and/or Motivational Interviewing and/or Cognitive Behavioural techniques

Risk identification and management

Able to meet We Are With You's safeguarding requirements of a satisfactory enhanced DBS/PVG certificate

Ability to work flexible and unsocial hours as required

Lone working will be required, as appropriate
