Job Overview
About the BMA

The British Medical Association (BMA) is the trade union and professional body for doctors in the UK. We represent, support and negotiate on behalf of all UK doctors and medical students.

Join the BMA at a crucial time for doctors and the NHS and be part of a team working for better pay and conditions for the profession.

About the role:
We are recruiting a Policy Advice and Research Officer to join our Public Health and Healthcare function.
This role is a fixed term contract for 6 months.

The function includes the healthcare delivery team and population health team which are supported by an economic analysis unit.

The teams work closely with the BMA's democratic structures to undertake research and analysis, gather evidence, develop policy solutions, advice and guidance and deliver policy change.

This role sits within the healthcare delivery team but may involve working across the function as required.

You will support the team to deliver its work programme which includes health service delivery and integration, workforce, digital transformation, supporting industrial action and the UK COVID Inquiry, and a variety of other high-profile health policy issues.

This is a hybrid role with a mix of working from home and at BMA House in central London.

To be successful as a Policy Advice and Research Officer you'll need:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong research and analysis skills (both quantitative and qualitative). The role requires a high degree of data literacy and the ability to interpret and communicate health system data sets to ensure the BMA's policy activities are supported by data and evidence
  • Organisational and project management skills
  • Have experience of evidencebased policy development, ideally in a health or healthrelated context
  • Experience of working on healthcare delivery issues is not essential, however you must be keen to learn and develop expertise in the team's policy areas
  • Willingness to take opportunities to work with members and colleagues from across the BMA and to work flexibly across a range of projects.
