The Department of Physiology Anatomy & Genetics, University of Oxford, is seeking a talented and dedicated Communications Officer to join our team.

Reporting directly to the Head of Administration and Finance, you will play a key role in developing and implementing our department's internal and external communication activities.


The Role:

As our Communications Officer, you will have the unique opportunity to shape our department's identity and foster a stronger sense of community among our staff and students.

You will serve as the Editor-in-Chief of our department's website and weekly newsletter, crafting compelling copy, uploading captivating images, and promoting the achievements and activities of our department.

Working closely with the Digital Media and Communications Manager, you will contribute to the development and delivery of our overarching communications strategy.

Your responsibilities will include ensuring consistent and exciting digital content, promoting our seminars and academic events, and coordinating public engagement activities within the department.

Additionally, you will support the development of communications initiatives for Athena SWAN, further advancing our commitment to equality.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Collaborate with the Head of Administration and Finance and Digital Media and Communications Manager to design and implement a comprehensive communications strategy.
  • Professionally deliver timely and effective communication activities aligned with our department's goals and objectives.
  • Create, edit, and proofread various communications materials for diverse audiences, including newsletters, website articles, intranet updates, and annual reports.
  • Manage and update our department's online communications platforms, including the website, intranet, and social media channels.
  • Develop and produce promotional materials for departmental campaigns and events, such as websites, brochures, and posters.
  • Curate and edit captivating video content for our website and video wall, showcasing our research and successes.
  • Organise and promote departmental events, collaborating with the Head of Department office.
  • Evaluate communications activities using appropriate methods, analyse results, and provide recommendations for future strategies.
  • Engage with stakeholders and audiences, disseminating relevant information through various channels.
  • Deliver tailored communications training and advice sessions to researchers and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with branding guidelines and encourage their use across the department.
  • Cultivate relationships with other university communication officers, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Qualifications and Skills:

The post is offered as a full-time, permanent contract, available from September 2023 and will be based at the Department of Physiology Anatomy & Genetics in the Sherrington Building, Oxford, OX1 3PT.


Thursday 13th July, and interviews are likely to be held in

August 2023.
