This is a very exciting time to join our rapidly developing Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service at Acorn Lodge Day Service

Acorn Lodge is an Children's Unit offering mental health support to children aged 12 and under. It has a long and internationally recognised reputation as being a leading Children's mental health provider.

Acorn Lodge has gone through a period of redevelopment and this unique role offers the opportunity to play an important role in its success.

The Acorn Lodge programme runs Monday to Friday from 9-5 and offers individual, family and group interventions.

We are looking for individuals who work well as part of a team but are also able to take initiative and work autonomously when required.

Our service has a strong commitment to continuously improving the service we offer to children and families.

Successful applicants will directly contribute to the positive working environment within the team and will be encouraged to identify areas for service improvement.

The senior management team at Acorn Lodge are committed to staff development. Successful applicants will receive a full induction and regular supervision to support their work within this role. There are regular opportunities for staff to attend appropriate training courses, and to get involved with quality improvement initiatives within the service

Successful applicants will work as part of our multi-disciplinary CAMHS team. You will develop key working relationships with young people and their families. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to function well as part of a team.

You will participate in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care.


Clinical support workers are encouraged to become involved with planning and facilitating therapeutic groups as part of the activity programme at Acorn Lodge.


You will be expected to dynamically assess risk, and respond appropriately where safeguarding or risk issues arise, and escalate and report as appropriate.


You will be responsible for identifying and implementing necessary support to our young people, to help them complete normal daily routines.

This will include attending school on the Bethlem site, as part of the Acorn Lodge day programme.


You will be responsible for observing and reporting any changes in the young peoples' physical, mental health and behaviour to the nurse in charge and the senior team.

You will have an awareness and understanding of effective risk management techniques.

Clinical Skills

  • Working under the guidance of a Registered Nurse/ AP/NA/B4, to implement
the delivery of quality nursing care, contributing to the physical, psychological,
social, recreational and spiritual care in a recovery-focused way through
therapeutic engagement and activities, and taking steps to address any issues
that arise.

  • Leading on and undertaking activities to ensure that the fundamentals of care
are met - nutrition, hydration, hygiene, comfort, emotional and social support.

  • Supporting junior to staff and leading on providing hands-on care to service

users including:

a. Undertaking 1-1 engagement with service users in an honest, open and nonjudgmental way.
b. Recognising and valuing service users as individuals, acknowledging the
importance of maintaining the service user's respect and dignity at all times
and ensure that the care provided respects equality and diversity.
c. Escalating any concerns to a Registered Nurse.
d. Monitoring and recording service user clinical observations, such as Physical
observations and vital signs a
