Second Step is a leading mental health provider in Bristol, North Somerset and B&NES.

Our aim is to deliver Recovery and Wellbeing opportunities for adults with mental health and other support needs to achieve their hopes and ambitions.

  • The Urgent Assessment hub is a month Pilot supporting the Sanctuary in Bristol. The Aim of the pilot is to support Southwest Ambulance in supporting clients who are being picked up by SWAS in Mental Health Crisis.
  • The new Pilot will run from Gloucester House which is based within Southmead Hospital. The Pilot will run 2 evenings a week on a Tuesday and Wednesday evening from 4pm
  • Midnight.

Hours - 16 hours Per Week

Salary Scale:

25,474 up to £27,83- Pro - Rata.

The Role

  • The purpose of this service is to provide a safe, welcoming, comfortable place for people in immediate acute emotional distress. The focus of this service is on supporting episodes of emotional distress rather than ongoing support intervention.

The senior role:
will involve Triage and Assessment of clients being referred in to the Sanctuary in Bristol - Southmead Hospital.

  • The Role will be working alongside 2 Recovery Navigators, providing supervision and on hand support. You will be supported with supervision training and will be working alongside a Team Manager for the first 3 months of the pilot to support your training requirements.
  • The post is based in a central location in Bristol. The Urgent assessment hub can offer additional support to AWP's 999 Pods including Street Triage, who are distressed but aren't receiving support from a secondary service.
  • Recovery Navigators will work with clients to prevent and reduce psychological difficulties. Follow up wellbeing check can also be arranged to review a client's current psychological state, discuss selfmanagement tools, create Wellness Action Plans, and assess the need for referral to secondary services. The team can offer clients additional support with suicidal ideation, emotional distress, anxiety, depression, low mood, social isolation, and sleep hygiene. We can offer additional support and signposting for issues such as housing, debt, health problems, drugs and alcohol use, substance misuse, unemployment. - brief sessions at the end of the shift.


The Person

  • You'll have experience of working with people with long term mental health and complex needs and carrying out needs and risks assessments. You will need to take a holistic view, with a recovery and psychologically informed approach.
  • You'll be a good communicator, be great at building trust and be keen to work as part of a new team to contribute to the delivery of this valuable service.
  • You will have good organizational skills to be able to direct and lead a small team.
  • You will be required to have skills around managing risk and escalating referrals for clients who may require clinical support.
