This is an exciting opportunity to join an experienced, supportive, compassionate team who are building on their expertise of working with a wide range of LTCs to deliver safe and effective psychological treatments for patients experiencing Long Covid and other long term health conditions.


We are seeking an experienced qualified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) to be part of the Sheffield Talking Therapies Health and Wellbeing Team in the role of Senior PWP.

An enthusiasm for service development and providing quality clinical supervision

A high level of skills and experience of working successfully with adults experiencing depression and anxiety disorders.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a supportive team.


It is essential you hold a Post Graduate Certificate in Low Intensity Psychological Interventions and applicants will be required to have completed the long-term condition top-up training in line with the national curriculum for PWP's.


The Senior Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner will:

Work within the Talking Therapies service to offer high quality evidence-based interventions within the stepped care model for people with common mental health problems such as Anxiety and Depression.

Whilst also incorporating the LTC pathways the service is commissioned to work with.


Support GPs and other health care professionals in primary and secondary care teams to help manage patients with Depression or Anxiety and the LTC pathways the service is commissioned to work with.


Offer supervision and professional and practical support to PWP colleagues of varying experience (including PWP Trainees) within the Talking Therapies service.


Offer expert support; clinical guidance and leadership as needed to other PWP colleagues requiring support or when dealing with suitability or difficult clinical situations.


Sheffield Talking Therapies is at the forefront of transforming access to psychological therapies, aiming to offer interventions to over 17,000 people in Sheffield each year.


The Talking Therapies Health and Wellbeing Team delivers a range of evidence based, stepped-care interventions for people living with long term physical health conditions who are also experiencing anxiety or depression.


The team brings together experienced Talking Therapies Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners, Cognitive Behavioural Therapists, Counsellors and Clinical Health Psychologists to work closely together with health, social care and third sector colleagues across primary and secondary care in a range of physical health condition pathways.


An early implementer site and one of the largest Talking Therapies LTC sites in the country, we have well established pathways working with patients with Diabetes, COPD, CHD, CFS/ME, IBS, MUS/PPS and Chronic Pain.


As an innovative and responsive service, we are expanding to meet additional needs associated with the Coronavirus Pandemic, developing new physical health condition pathways for patients experiencing Long-Covid and Tinnitus.


To meet the National Talking Therapies standards which include an individual minimum 50% recovery rate and to meet 20 clinical contact hours (pro-rata) per week.

To ensure productivity expectations are met in line with the National Talking Therapies manual.

To meet patient needs by working across Sheffield according to demand.

Working a minimum of 22.5 hours per week and to offer one early appointment and one late appointment per week (outside 9-5pm working hours) and Saturday working on occasion if required.


Provide support to GPs and other health care professionals in managing patients with common mental health problems associated with LTC within primary and secondary care.


Assist people accessing the service for help with common mental health problems to identify their problems; assess their needs; prioritise goals and agree with the individual a way forward or action plan.


Assess and identify patients presenting with 'risk' (to self or other people) and be able to carry out an appropriate risk assessment; follow the Talking Therapies risk protocol; and procedures for communicating and acting on risk (including child and adult safeguarding policies); and provide support to PWP colleagues when required to do the same.

Work with GP practice teams and other physical health teams to ensure an integrated approach to mental health care.


Step patients to more appropriate levels of care in Talking Therapies efficiently and appropriately - as part of the stepped care model.

Ensure patients have access to all facilities available at their surgery.

Provide evidence-based interventions for patients both in GP clinics; telephone clinics and group-based interventions, such as guided self-help in line with NICE and Talking Therapie
