Henderson Wholesale is a leading Wholesaler in Northern Ireland and supplies goods to over 450 stores across various brands such as SPAR, EUROSPAR and VIVO.

We source from local farmers, growers and producers and are proud to contribute to our local economy and environment.

Very simplistically, the Payroll Team process significantly large volumes of data on daily basis from managers, stores, external clients, which is then input onto the payroll system.


The Payroll Team then carrying out audits and checks to identify any anomalies, based on the received data, before sending monies to employee accounts in time for pay day.


The Payroll Team deal with a high volume of payrolls for 70+ companies, 5500+ Henderson Group employees, and over 3000 independent retail partner employees.


The purpose of the role:


As a Trainee Payroll Services Administrator, you will be trained and upskilled to be able to combine your newly acquired knowledge of payroll requirements and calculations, coupled with your existing excellent customer service skills, to ensure that payroll data is processed and validated within specified timelines whilst adhering to guidelines.


You'll be joining a close-knit team, who work together to ensure that workloads are managed effectively, and all queries are responded to accurately and promptly.


As a key part of our team, and once training has been completed and you have reached the accepted/required level of competency, you will ensure that everything is in order by correcting errors, updating systems, and carrying out regular checks.


Working as
Trainee Payroll Services Administrator you will:


  • Administer weekly, lunar, and monthly payroll information within specified deadlines
  • Respond to and resolve payroll queries from managers and external customers.
  • Assist with detailed payroll auditing and checking procedures to ensure accurate payrolls.
  • Deal with correspondence enquiries from external parties.
  • Issue new employees with ID/T&A passes and benefits cards.
  • Process BACS payments, advances and loans to employees and thirdparty payments e.g. NEST & HMRC.
  • Process employee expenses, checking revenue and VAT Compliance.
  • Maintain the company payroll systems e.g. Payroll, Time & Attendance, Access Systems, and other employee systems.
  • Update the cost reports and company accounts files

Skills for Success
Joining us
Trainee Payroll Services Administrator the minimum criteria you'll need is:

  • Minimum of 4 GCSE including Maths & English at Grade C or above (or equivalent)
  • Experience of using a Workforce Management System
  • An Understanding of meeting payroll processing deadlines and understanding the impact when not adhered to
  • Demonstrable computer literacy with a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office packages, in particular, MS Excel and MS Outlook

  • Knowledge/ awareness of income tax, tax codes, and national insurance in relation to payroll
  • Experience of processing data

  • Experience of using Infor WFM and Mobility
  • Payroll experience
  • Bank reconciliation experience
  • Working Knowledge or experience within Henderson Group
