Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Practitioner
Family Care are a family-owned social care provider. We have been providing therapeutically informed care and education for children and young people since 1988.


We work with a determination to create environments which enable the children and young people we care for to achieve positive outcomes from the therapeutic care we provide.

Our therapeutic services team works closely with all staff members through group consultations and reflective practice sessions.

These meetings are designed to educate and empower staff members, support self-reflection, promote safe practice and develop an appreciation of the life journey our young people have been on.

We have adopted the Secure Base model as our practice model, which underpins all practice across Family Care.

Within our learning disability provisions, the Secure Base is complimented by Positive Behaviour Support, an approach recommended in supporting behaviour change in children or adults with a learning disabilities.

We are seeking to employer a PBS practitioner to support our residential homes. Within this exciting role, you will be key in supporting staff work within the PBS model.

You will lead the implementation of the PBS strategy across the organization, improving the understanding of the function of concerning behaviours, creating capable environments, developing PBS plans, and supporting staff training and development.

This is a part-time, 4 days per week, hybrid remote position that will involve travelling to sites in the North West._


Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support staff teams in developing PBS plans, support plans and risk assessments monitoring and reviewing these,
  • Quality assuring the implementation of PBS across settings,
  • Work collaboratively with other internal and external professionals to give advice on trends and behaviours,
  • Support assessment and transition of people moving into and out of Family Care Group Services,
  • Ensure relevant reports are completed in an accurate and timely manner,
  • Facilitation of/or attendance at a variety of meetings across the settings,
  • Keeping up to date records of meetings and support in accordance with GDPR,
  • Supporting the delivery and development of training programs,
  • Provide mentoring support to staff accessing PBS accredited training courses.

You must

  • Hold a recognized PBS qualification (i.e. PBS degree level, BILD CAPBS Coaches)
  • It is essential that you have experience of working with children and families with learning disabilities and /or within residential settings,
  • A good understanding of safeguarding procedures,
  • Have knowledge and experience of working with parents/carers/professionals supporting children with learning disabilities and neurodiversity,
  • Have an understanding of children's mental health and neurodevelopmental difficulties (or if not demonstrate a passion and commitment to learning to increase knowledge and develop practice),
  • Be registered/governed with an accredited body,
  • Hold a valid UK driving licence and have access to your own car,
  • An enhanced DBS will be required upon appointment.
