We are looking for someone to lead the continuous development of a capable and confident incident response across Environment Management (EM) in the West Midlands.

As part of this role you will act as a single point of contact for your EM colleagues in West Midlands on everything Environment Management Duty Officer (EMDO) and Environment Management Site Controller (EMSC) related.

You will lead, support and train the EMDO and EMSC staff in West Midlands so that they are capable and confident.

You will help to build resilient rosters and embed a positive culture around incident management in the West Midlands area.

This is an opportunity for you to lead, nurture and develop a crucial team of your Environment Management colleagues:

  • You will take pride in our excellent emergency environmental response
  • You will develop your personal & leadership skills capabilities
  • You will work with others in WMD and Nationally achieving a bigger picture of how our IM environmental response fits in to our Strategy
  • You will create a cyclical development plan for staff which includes all training and development needs, working with external organisations to ensure we're the best we can be
  • You will build relationships with Area Incident Team, ABC/ADMs, L&W, RI TLs etc
  • You will working with other Delivery Leads in West Midlands to maintain our one response culture


  • The team

  • You'll be an integral part of either our Water, Land and Biodiversity or Regulated Industry department.

As an SEO you'll join a group of other technical leaders across the departments and work closely with our Area Incident Team, to share and implement best practice in West Midlands and beyond.

You will work with all Delivery Leads in the area on a regular basis.

  • Experience/skills required
  • Experience of our incident management processes, particularly in EM, would be advantageous.
Through experience to date, you will be able to demonstrate the following:

- be flexible, resourceful and prioritise work to deliver the best outcomes
- have a positive attitude and the ability to work independently to prioritise workloads
- be a clear and confident communicator, with the ability to develop and maintain good relationships with colleagues at all levels of the organisation
