Salary Band D £31,931 - £34,709, Band E £39,748 - £44,166

Hours:
Full time.

The Scientific Computing Department (SCD) provides large-scale computing facilities, computing data services and infrastructure at both Daresbury Laboratory in Cheshire and Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire.

Made up of data infrastructure, and scientificcomputing and computation groups, the expertise and intelligence SCD provides UKRI, underpins almost every key calculation across the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) and beyond.

About the Role
In this forward-thinking role, you'll work in cross-project teams developing tools and services for advanced systems. You'll be collaborating with our service users as they research into some of the toughest questions facing the world today, such as discoveringnew materials to help reduce waste, or exploring how we might change our cities to tackle climate change


You'll be gaining deep, hands-on expertise with the latest cloud-native tools, practices and data management technologies, building novel data and modelling platforms, and be part of a team who are creating tangible, positive change for generations to come.


Band D essential skills:

  • Experience working with modern programming languages, for example Python, Javascript, Java
  • Experience of working within an agile software development process
  • Experience of Software Engineering tools, methods and processes.
  • Experience with working with external users for requirements capture and systems support
  • Working within a Linux environment
Band E essential skills all of the above, plus:

  • Experience in software systems design
  • Experience in leading development on system components.
