Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to be part of a team to help develop our operating department and future proof our service following the creation of a foundation trust.

We are looking for a motivated and dynamic person who embraces change through the process of continuous improvement, to ensure our values are achieved to the put the patient first.


We require an experienced Anaesthetic Nurse/ODP to work at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton which is now one of the specialist hospitals caring for patients with major trauma across the region.


You will be leading a team working with management and other healthcare professionals as well as supporting junior staff to deliver high quality evidence based care.

We have 9 Operating theatres in the department, we are open 24/7 and we employ 150 staff. It is a very interesting place to work no two days are the same.

As the Anaesthetic Team Leader you would be responsible for managing the anaesthetic staff in conjunction with the other team leaders to provide daily operational management whilst also working with the theatre managers and other healthcare professionals to build the foundations to realise the trust's aim to provide excellent care every time.


You will support the team to prepare a wide range of specialist equipment and drugs, including anaesthetic machines, intravenous equipment and devices that safely secure the patient's airway during anaesthesia.

In partnership with the Clinical Directors Directorate Matron and Clinical theatre Manager you will implement and lead the framework for clinical governance and patient safety including monitoring its effectiveness


You will expected to supervise junior colleagues and unqualified members of our team staff ensuring that all staff is able to provide the highest standard of care through evidence based practice.

  • To work professionally within the Codes set by the NMC/HPC
  • Maintain a high level of CPD and competence to practice within the theatre environment, keeping up to date with legislation and NatSSIPS
  • Lead on Directorate Nursing initiatives for the department and across our other hospital theatre departments.
  • Support PFIS the trust's strategy to put the patient first and drive improvements forward to reduce inefficiencies.
  • Ensure Systems and processes are in place to maintain safety in the work place for the patients, staff and visitors.
The department has an excellent practice development team, who support staff education and Welfare.
