We have an excellent opportunity for a Banking Admin Lead to join our Finance Operations team on a 12 month Fixed Term Contract.

This role reports to the Banking Operations Manager and is based in Edinburgh.

About the Department

Over the past three years Abrdn's Finance function has undergone a transformation to:

  • Bring all parts of the function together as One Finance, structured around three Centres of Excellence (Finance Operations, Finance Reporting, and Business Partnering and Performance);
  • Enhance working practices; and
  • Replace our tools and technologies with the implementation of best-in-class cloud ERP, general ledger and data mart technologies.


The Finance Operations Centre of Excellence plays a critical role in servicing our clients and providing key financial information for customers and stakeholders.

This Centre of Excellence manages our outsourced relationship/activities for Accounts Payable, Expenses, Banking and Client Billing, together with Finance Systems, as well as performing our Operational Control activities to oversee the controlled production of the general ledger.

In addition this Centre of Excellence includes dedicated Procurement and Business Management Teams.

About the Role


This role represents a key position in the retained Finance Operations model, following the implementation of the outsourced relationship, and the role holder will support the Banking Operations Manager and the wider Operations team in the management and oversight of the outsourced components of Banking activity (quality, timeliness, control, compliance), as well as taking the lead in delivering retained activities around bank account maintenance.

The role will report to the Banking Operations Manager and will be responsible for specific tasks including:


Banking - Administration- Receive inputs from Relationship Managers and other stakeholders for bank account openings, validating the request and initiating the process to open bank accounts- Validate any requests for account update/closure process- Submit the documentation and request to bank for any closures- Prepare Board papers as required- Prepare and maintain KYC documentation- Maintain account mandates and permissions- Periodic review for bank platform access- Update Group Finance database with details pertaining to new bank account requests and updates on existing bank accounts- Payment Form updates- Provide support and cover for Banking Operations Manager tasks as required (mainly manual payments)- Support ongoing review and rationalisation of bank accounts- Support participation in various projects - Manual Payments (Service Now and Oracle automation and connecting the two), automation of reconciliations, TS2, Intercompany.

Commercial- Understand commercial drivers and external market forces- Understand standard processes and ensure industry representation for abrdn as appropriate with external partners, including applicable industry bodies- Regions & Entities - Demonstrate knowledge of regions (including regulatory environment) and legal entity structure- Keep up to date with relevant UK and overseas changes and advise business areas of any implications that may arise, partnering as appropriate with peers globally to ensure that enterprise-wide solutions are sought- Understand relationships and dependencies within the Function, abrdn and externally- Anticipating and incorporating (internal or external) client needs

Operational Excellence- Experienced at operating across global/matrix organisation- Able to work in partnership with Third Party Providers- Able to work to and manage KPIs- Track and manage resources, timelines, costs, deliverables and performance
