Description

YORK TEACHING HOSPITAL NHS FOUNDATION TRUST
Consultant Orthodontist

-
Base: York Hospital

Part Time - 8 Programmed Activities (an additional programme activity may be offered).

Application Process

This consultant post is a replacement post for a long-serving colleague who is retiring at the end of May 2023.

Currently, it is a part-time post (8 PAs) based at York Hospital, but with a clinical commitment at Scarborough General Hospital on one day per week.

However, we are open to discussion regarding flexible/less-that-full-time working.

You will be working alongside two orthodontic consultant colleagues, one of whom also has clinical commitments at Scarborough General Hospital and one who has clinical commitments at Harrogate District Hospital.

There is also an orthodontic specialty dentist, clinic assistant and therapist in York and therapists in Scarborough and Harrogate. The dental nursing team is excellent and extremely helpful, as are our secretary and reception team.

You will also be working with two Restorative Dentistry consultants and there are six Maxillofacial surgeons, three of whom undertake orthognathic surgery which is 3D planned.

Post-pandemic, our orthognathic service has been fully operational since May 2021 and we have undertaken twice as many procedures as any other unit in our region in that time.

Our backlog will have been eliminated by the end of this financial year.

In joining the Trust, you will have access to a wide range of staff benefits including health and wellbeing support, finance schemes and discounts.

There is also a competitive relocation package of up to £18,000.

To support your learning and development you will be entitled to a study leave budget of £3,000 across three years, along with support from our learning and development team.

The Trust also offers an extra 2 days annual leave for consultants on top of the existing allowance as detailed in the Consultant Terms and Conditions.

More information can be found on the Trust's website in the 'Working for Us' section.

The department in York Hospital is part of the Head and Neck Directorate which sits in the Surgical Care Group and is based in the Head and Neck outpatient department with Audiology, ENT, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Restorative Dentistry.

There is an on-site first-class technical laboratory and the department is fully 3D-enabled with an intra-oral scanner and 3D printer.

There are excellent teaching and research opportunities with orthodontic trainees shared with Leeds Dental Institute and funded by HEE Yorkshire and Humber.

The Trust is actively raising its research profile and the research lead for our Care Group is currently one of the restorative dentists.
