We are seeking to appoint two Scientific Officers who will provide technical support and assist with scientific duties at the Centre for Global Health Discovery at LSHTM.


The post-holder will mainly implement and perform molecular bacteriology techniques to aid the development of new in vitro assays/models for M.

tuberculosis to evaluate the efficacy of new anti-tuberculosis compounds, alone and in combination. The post-holder will perform various M. tuberculosis molecular biology experiments to assist current projects and provide the scientific rational for future projects.

All this is done in a team-oriented, result driven, international research environment that provides an excellent career opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated scientist.

The post-holder will provide technical support and perform and report in vitro M. tuberculosis MIC, MBC, checkerboard and kill kinetic assays. This includes the culturing of bacteria under various conditions and performing assays with different endpoint readouts, eg. CFU, REMA, etc. Using molecular biology techniques to construct mutant strains of M. tuberculosis may be required.

The roles will entail in vitro molecular biology assays and general laboratory tasks, including preparing reagents and materials, and cleaning and maintaining laboratory equipment.

It will also require lab management including the ordering of lab consumables.

The roles will involve working closely with other academic research and professional support staff and will require excellent communication, organizational and team working skills.


The successful applicants will have a Bachelor's degree (B.Sc.) in a biological science or related field or Medical Laboratory Scientist qualification, or experience in the relevant field, experience of bacterial assays, cell culture and techniques are essential.

Proficient in MS Office and Graphpad Prism or equivalent analysis software. Further particulars are included in the job description.
