Where you'll be working

As a Distribution and Transmission Network Operator, SP Energy Networks keeps the electricity flowing to homes and businesses throughout Central and Southern Scotland, North Wales, Merseyside, Cheshire and North Shropshire.

One of only six Distribution Operators and one of four Transmission Operators in the UK, our actions are crucial to the decarbonisation of the network.

The energy landscape is changing fast as the way our customers and communities generate, consume and interact with energy evolves.

Our role is to decarbonise our network through technology and innovation to support the journey to Net Zero.

We need to maximise the efficiency of our network to optimise the transmission and distribution of electricity generated from renewables, reducing electricity losses, and allowing us to move away from fossil fuels.

With great power comes great responsibility - but we're up for the challenge

With distribution networks designed for predictable, stable demand, it's vital we upgrade our network to create the flexibility required to cope with the extensive changes to electricity demand, generation and consumer behaviour.

What you'll be doing

As a Business Graduate at SP Energy Networks, you'll have the unique opportunity to gain invaluable and varied experience as you will be exposed to different departments and functions, allowing you to gain a comprehensive understanding of how our business operates.

This will include rotations across different departments, project assignments, leadership development, networking opportunities and exposure to senior leaders.

As a business graduate, the main activities you will be involved in will include:

Rotations:
you will rotate through different departments and functions within our organisation.

From the revenue reporting team to the business assurance and risk team, regulatory strategy team, price control negotiating team, energy income team and regulatory reporting, you'll be exposed to a wide range of areas within our business.

This will give you a well-rounded understanding of how these different functions work together.

Project assignments:
these can include work on specific projects or initiatives within your department or across different departments. These projects can involve conducting market research, analysing data, developing business strategies or implementing process improvements.

Networking and Relationship Building:

Building relationships and expanding your professional network will be valuable for future career growth and opportunities within SP Energy Networks.

Leadership development:
the graduate program will include workshops, training sessions and mentorship opportunities. These activities aim to enhance your leadership skills, communication abilities and problem-solving capabilities.

Additionally, you'll have the chance to contribute to financial analysis strategies within these teams, helping us drive sustainable growth and achieve our Net Zero goals.

Our graduates have the opportunity for hybrid working with your time split between home, site and office, depending on the projects that you are supporting.

In addition, travel to different offices and sites within your business may be required a few times each month.

What you'll bring
To thrive in our Business Graduate role, you'll need strong written and verbal communication skills. As a highly analytical individual, you'll have the ability to navigate complex data and draw meaningful insights. These analysis skills and a good eye for detail will enable you to monitor data and improve our systems. And with a proactive and creative approach to problem-solving, you'll help us to deliver network solutions for our customers.

Additionally, you'll need to be confident in working with stakeholders at all levels, as you may even have the opportunity to sit on our independent Net Zero committee.
