The Role
You will bring your experience of nature conservation, landowner and stakeholder engagement to save rare species in Powys as part of the most ambitious nature recovery and people engagement programme in Wales.
'Natur am Byth' *unites nine environmental charities and Natural Resources Wales (NRW) to deliver the country's largest natural heritage and people engagement programme to save species from extinction and connect people to nature.
This role is dedicated to the Welsh Marches project in Powys that has been developed in close partnership with Plantlife.
It is one of 11 place-based projects in the Natur am Byth programme and has a particular focus on rare lichens, bryophytes and invertebrates.
The target species selected are associated with veteran trees, ancient woodland and niche grassland habitats that occur in Powys close to the England border - an area often referred to as the 'Welsh Marches'.
You will work closely with the Plantlife Natur am Byth project officer to co-design activities and agree a schedule of work that builds on both your own experience and that of Plantlife.
You will work closely with NRW specialists, contractors and local partners in delivering a range of practical conservation interventions in line with the detailed 4-year project plan.
You will also co-ordinate landowner training and work with Plantlife and the Natur am Byth people engagement officer to deliver public outreach that benefits communities from a range of backgrounds in Powys.
You will join a team of four other NRW staff in the Natur am Byth central team, reporting to the Natur am Byth programme manager.
You will also work closely with the NRW Mid Wales People and Places team and Environment Teams to ensure integration with their work programmes and build on local knowledge.
You will bring your experience of protected site and habitat management, plus your experience of landowner and tenant liaison to outline the required legacy management options that will ensure the long-term enhancement of habitats for target species.
You will have enough experience of handling species data and GIS software to provide advice to other Natur am Byth projects officers.
You will work with consultants and experts to implement a monitoring programme for the target species in the Welsh Marches, and work with other project officers across the Natur am Byth partnership to share best practice.
