Second Step is a leading mental health charity in the South West offering housing, support and hope to thousands of people with mental health and other support needs. Our goal is to inspire hope and deliver change for everybody and every community we work with.

  • Open Mental Health is partnership of nine local voluntary organisations and the NHS in Somerset. By adopting a multidisciplinary, partnership approach we work as one service to limit barriers to accessing services and ensure that people get the support they need, when they need it. We have a shared ambition to support people to achieve a fulfilling life beyond services.

The Role:


  • You will work as part of a team to support individuals on their journey from acute ward to community, ensuring they have all the necessary support to access finances, housing and meaningful community connections, utilising your lived experience wherever appropriate.

Support will include:

  • Tools for wellbeing and recovery
  • Psychological support
  • Emotional support
  • Help to find appropriate housing helping clients with resettlement process?
  • Links to community resources and activities.
  • Practical support
  • Help to access education and training.
  • Support to find suitable volunteering and employment.

Who we're looking for:


  • We are looking for someone who is passionate about ensuring that people have the skills and connections to live a fulfilling life after services and enjoys working collaboratively with individuals and other services to achieve great outcomes based on each individuals' hopes and needs.
  • You'll have at least two years experience of working in mental health, housing or other related sectors. You may have personal experience that enhances your skills. You'll be great at building trusting relationships at all levels and be keen to contribute to delivering a high quality service.
