Become an Operations HLTA at our school Acorn Park, part of Options Autism and start working towards yours.

Acorn Park is a Special Educational Needs (SEN) School and Residential home.

We help care for and support young people who have complex needs and specialise in the communication and learning challenges associated with Autism.


The aim of the site is to provide enough support to unlock each child's potential so they can live fulfilling and productive lives.

We provide young people with as much freedom as possible in a safe and supervised environment.

This is achievable due to thededication and support from a range of employed professionals who are passionate, reliable, and understanding.


Purpose of Post

  • To work in an integrated team to assist in the everyday education and care of young people with special education needs
  • To provide operational support to the leadership team; this includes daily staff cover, trips and visits administration, timetable management, absence support (Mornings 812)
  • Assisting the teachers in the delivery of the curriculum, and supporting pupils on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis (Afternoons

General Responsibilities

The HLTA will:

  • Provide operational support for the Senior Education Leadership Team, ensuring daily staffing and cover are appropriate, holding staff absence phone, managing staff absence, supporting 4Day Working Week administration, providing timetable amendment support,agency staff administration, recruitment administration support, completing risk assessment paperwork for trips and visits (this is not an exhaustive list)
  • Establish and maintain individual relationships with pupils that are consistent, caring and understanding
  • Assist individuals or groups of pupils within any classroom with their learning, both academic and behavioural/social.
  • Liaise with education and care colleagues regarding issues, concerns or achievements of pupils
  • Work 2:1, 1:1 or with small groups of pupils on specific programs when required

A current HLTA or equivalent qualification. Grade C/5 or above in Maths and English GCSE or equivalent, is essential. It would be ideal if you have had previous experience in a SEN School and you know about the Autistic spectrum.
