JOB DESCRIPTION


Are you a dispenser looking for an exciting opportunity or would you like to train to become a dispenser in an award winning dispensing doctors practice.


An opportunity has arisen for a dedicated qualified dispenser or trainee dispenser to join our friendly and professional team at Llanfair surgery.


We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who is motivated and passionate about supplying patients with their medicines in an accurate and timely manner to provide the best possible care for our patients.

Being methodical, organised and having great attention to detail will be paramount in this role.

You will be a key member of the dispensary team and will be supported by the dispensary manager and the wider clinical team.

Trainee or Qualified Dispenser on a three-month probationary period


Hours of Work: 37.5

Dispensary Manager


Job Purpose:

To provide an accurate, timely, and efficient dispensing service to the registered patients at Llanfair Surgery and Meddygfa Cadog, Llangadog.


KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. DISPENSING
1.1 To dispense medication as stated on prescriptions, maintaining accurate dispensing

records and ensuring that the medication selected is labelled with the correct drug name,

strength, formulation, quantity, directions for use, patient's name and includes any additional

information e.g. sundries,

1.2 To adhere to practice policies and procedures for dispensing medicines, as outlined in the practice's Standard Operating Procedures

1.3 Provide a second check on medication issued where necessary i.e. dosette boxes, controlled drugs


1.4 Maintaining accurate and minimum stock levels of medicines, carrying out stock checks, checking expiry dates and adhering to safe storage requirements.

1.5 Ordering pharmaceutical stock, placing accurate and timely orders with suppliers and sourcing out of stock items

1.6 Ensuring the dispensary and all its equipment are kept clean, accurate and in a good state of repair

1.7 Dispensing of patient dosette boxes and associated administration.

1.8 Receiving deliveries of medication, checking the medication received is correct and entering them onto the computerised stock control records and storing appropriately

2.
ADMINISTRATION
2.1 Using the Vision/Emis clinical computer system ensure all relevant information is recorded

within individual patient records. Resolve computer problems when these arise by

consultation with colleagues or Vision/Emis

2.2 Endorse prescriptions accurately by checking prices with suppliers and endorsing brands as necessary

2.3 Ensure the safe disposal of patient returned medication and out-of-date medicines following the disposal of returned medicines procedure

2.4 To process and issue paper prescriptions to non-dispensing patients in a timely manner

3.
DISPENSARY RECEPTION


3.1 Ensure that the correct medication is given to the patient by following the procedure for handing out medication which includes confirming the patient name and address as shown on the prescription and counselling the patient on the prescribed medication including informing the patient of additional instructions and information where appropriate3.2.

Discuss and confirm with the patient that all appropriate medical investigations are up-to-date or have been arranged to be done.

4.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
4.1 Adhere to all aspects of the Health and Safety at Work Act and Regulations and

Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations, ensuring good

hygiene, cleanliness and a safe environment in the dispensary following Infection Prevention policy at all times.

4.2 Maintain the integrity and security of the dispensary by admitting only authorised

personnel and ensuring that all medicines are stored as appropriate.

5.
COMMUNICATION
5.2 Liaise with members of the clinical team regarding medication for individual patients

5.3 Communicate effectively and regularly with other members of the dispensing team to

ensure the accurate exchange of information relating to patients and their medication.

6.
GENERAL
6.1 At all times maintain absolute confidentiality

6.2 Be prepared to cover the work of colleagues when they are absent through annual

leave or illness.

6.3 Be smart and adhere to uniform policy


Duties include:

  • Answer telephone
  • Receive patients and visitors, directing them as necessary
  • Schedule appointments
  • Deal with patient enquiries, referring to the appropriate member of staff
  • Perform any other related duties as the management may at times reasonably require

£10.94 per hour
