We have vacancies in Whitby for HGV Refuse Drivers.

The role you will be provided with routes on a weekly basis, where you will need to safely navigate your vehicle and crew through, ensuring that residents obtain the excellent and friendly service they expect.

Your role as our Refuse Driver is a hugely important one as you will be on the front-line of a key service.

The role is one that could lead onto further supervisor or operational management roles, or further development opportunities to move into another of our vast services.

You will be working in a supportive environment with regular supervision and many staff benefits.

Shifts are 5 days per week including some weekend working where necessary between 06:00 and 10pm. When working a weekend day, there is an extra payment of £30 per weekend day worked.

The role

You must have a Category C driving entitlement / HGV Licence, some knowledge and experience of operations a large goods vehicle and a focus and knowledge of safe working practices and general Health and Safety principles.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Operating o-licence vehicles in and around the county

Supervising small crews in your dedicated area of the county

Responsible for the safe operation of Large Goods Vehicles [LGV] up to 32t. Ensuring the vehicle is clean and in good working order

Collecting residual waste, garden waste, food waste or recyclable materials from domestic properties.

To take ownership over issues and be responsible for accurate reporting accidents, acting as the appointed person in relation to first aid


Typical working days and hours currently vary between different areas of the new council, but you need to be prepared to start early.

Some weekend and bank holiday working may be required.
