Job description:


The MOD Veterans Welfare Service (VWS), as part of MOD Veterans UK, is committed to enhancing quality of life for Veterans, their dependents and beneficiaries of Veterans UK pensions and compensation schemes.

It also focuses on providing support that will enable seamless transition from Service to Civilian life, assist bereaved families or respond to key life events that present welfare needs.


The primary purpose of the Welfare Advisor role is to understand and advise clients on the range of services available from the VWS and other organisations aiming to resolve client queries at the First Point of Contact.

(FPOC) You will advise on MOD Veterans UK Schemes, welfare benefits, the ex-Service Charities and other third-party organisations.

  • This role is office based however, DBS are working hard to improve our access to, and use of, digital technology, empowering our people to work remotely.


As the first point of contact, you will assess clients' needs and provide advice and guidance in relation to the support available to them.

Where appropriate, you will instigate a course of action to resolve issues by utilising the full range of services available or make referrals to our network of Welfare Managers for further support.

In all cases, you will be required to accurately record client conversations, case notes and outputs on the Veterans Welfare Computer System (VWCS) in line with internal requirements and quality standards.

When referring clients to a Welfare Manager for their action, you will be required to gather all relevant information to enable Welfare Managers to understand and identify client needs.


The Veterans Welfare Centre (VWC) is based at HMS Sultan, Centurion Building, Gosport, Hampshire and is one of four throughout the UK.

You will be part of a team of three Welfare Advisors and a Band D Centre Manager.


As a member of the team you will be required to provide phone cover on a rota basis in line with business requirements.

The VWC operating hours are currently: 08:30-17:00 Mon-Thurs 08:30-16:30 Fri

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
