About us:

Institutional Banking and Markets (IB&M) is responsible for managing the Group's relationships with major corporate and government clients and institutional investors, and provides a full range of capital raising, transactional and risk management products and services. The division also performs an important internal role for the Group by providing equities, markets, lending and transaction banking execution capabilities to other CBA business units that allows them to capture opportunities with business customers.**
Capital Markets & Syndicate ("CM&S") is the team within Global Markets which is responsible for origination and execution of primary debt issuance for clients across the government, semi-government, SSA, financial institution and corporate sectors globally. It includes Debt Capital Markets (DCM) which leads origination and Syndicate which leads distribution. CM&S acts as a link between various partners both internally and externally to drive new primary market debt transactions. Syndicate works closely with Fixed Income Sales, Trading, DCM, Loan Markets Origination, Securitisation, Client Coverage and Credit Risk teams.

Your Impact and Contribution:


This position will predominantly provide specialist syndicate advisory and services for IB&M's global client base with regards to issuance including the domestic AUD/NZD markets and across a variety of currencies in line with overall Global Markets strategy.

Currencies in which CBA is a lead manager on bond issuance are predominantly AUD/NZD but also extend to USD/HKD/CNH/SGD/EUR/GBP denominated bonds in Asia, Europe and the USA.

You will report into the Head of DCM & Syndicate Europe, who is responsible for assisting both domestic and offshore borrowers' access capital markets primarily in US, Australian and New Zealand Dollars, as well as local currencies.

Do work that matters:

Support the Syndicate team by working with Sales, Trading and Debt Markets to bring new primary bond issues into the domestic AUD/NZD markets as well as providing secondary support as needed to offshore Syndicate teams for global issuance in USD or other currencies as relevant.

Own the European MTN desk in terms of generation of ideas, working on mandates and delivering on execution. Ensure all risk managed smoothly and within SOPs. Work closely with the Singapore MTN desk on delivering MTNs for issuers or investors in APAC region.

Liaise and maintain dialogue with key issuer clients in support of senior Originator (e.g. European and Middle East Financials, as well as European based SSAs.) in order to keep abreast of funding plans/needs with a view towards execution of private placement transactions

Drafting of term sheets, indicative pricing runs, trade ideas, market announcements and maintenance of pricing databases

Support the book building process for CBA-led public bond issues across both domestic AUD and international issues.

Monitor and co-ordinate the transaction management activities post-pricing to include liaison with settlements and Bloomberg, transaction bookings as well as support Origination in documenting of private placement transactions, as required

We are interested in hearing from you if you have:


  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a markets role on either Syndicate, MTN, Sales or Trading desks

Good understanding of fixed income products to include cash and derivative markets both short and long term

Knowledge of the European issuer landscape across sectors incl. banks and corporates

Analytical with excellent communication, verbal reasoning, numerical and problem solving

High energy, able to operate at pace and bring a growth mindset

Strong IT skills to include MS Office and Bloomberg
