Your role:

Greater Manchester Combined Authority presents an exciting opportunity for a dynamic safety professional.

As part of a forward-thinking and proactive health, safety, and fitness team, you'll play a crucial role in supporting the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and contributing to the mission of protecting communities and saving lives.

Here are the key responsibilities for the Senior Health and Safety Advisor role:


  • Expert Leadership and Advice: You'll provide practical and technical leadership, offering expert guidance on health, safety, and risk management across a multidisciplinary organisation.

Wellbeing Initiatives: You'll drive new initiatives related to health, safety, and wellbeing, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements. Understanding the impact of wellbeing is essential.

ISO Management Systems: You'll assist in implementing and developing ISO management systems, particularly ISO45001, to enhance safety practices.
-
Incident Investigation: When serious health and safety incidents occur, you'll investigate, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions to ensure compliance.

Compliance and Best Practice: You'll lead and contribute to projects focused on compliance and best practices within health and safety legislation.

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:


  • Chartered Membership: You must hold Chartered Membership of the
    Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (CMIOSH).

Education: A
BSc in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent qualifications such as
NEBOSH / NCRQ National Diploma are essential.
-
Strategic Thinking: You'll develop and implement effective health and safety strategies, policies, and procedures.
-
Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are crucial, especially when engaging with senior stakeholders. You'll also have the capability to train non-health and safety professionals within the organization.

Local Government Experience: While not mandatory, experience in local government or related fields would be advantageous.
